Not being smart but just asking a question: if it recorded with the head aligned incorrectly, won't any camera with properly aligned heads fail to play it back because the contact points will be different?

Skorpion" had it right on the posts...

Sounds like your audio head was pretty out of alignment and recorded the
audio a bit away from the normal tracking area for a correctly aligned head.
Since you got yours fixed now it can't find the audio that was previously
recorded a bit too far off the normal tracking area. If you have good manual
control over tracking you could try cranking from one extreme to the other
and see if you can get audio, you may lose video but you could always merge
them back together if you can salvage it.

You have a tape that was recorded out of alignment so it CAN be read but
will take adjusting the tracking on playback....I STILL say you should have
sent the thing to me for repair by JVC, not some "who-ever" repair.....
Anyway, this can be salvaged but it will take someone who knows what they
are doing..... (This I do NOT have connections for.....sorry)

Things in Atlanta are great, headed out to Lake Tahoe next week and then on
to Montana for a little break.....then I come back and move
houses, STILL HAVE NOT SOLD MINE! but hey, I am moving anyway.,....
A little hectic but things are good....

OK, I have been looking to have a company restore or whatever you want to call it, the audio from the aflicted tapes. I'm not having much luck!

Does anyone know a company that does this sort of thing!??

BUELLER?!?

Mark, any response from your friends at USC?

Greg,

I just got a response back from my friend. Doesn't look good though. I'll forward the e-mail to you.
