Hi Def DVD, Blue Ray
Definately don't care. At the moment. My tech purchases are based on a "if it's broken, fix it; it not fixable, upgrade" motto... as long as I have surround sound, and a big enough tv to watch a movie (35"+) then it's not worth it for me to upgrade.

Blu-Ray. Mav made the point. I'm waiting for my PS3 to upgrade my room systems. Im getting the PS3, a Yamaha HT amplifier and a BOSE Acoustimass 10 Speaker system, oh and my HD Direct TV receiver. Im done.

Just head to a store that carries more than just Bose and notice that the Bose systems are always separate from other home theatre systems. It's because they don't want a direct comparison.
I produce video content for a living. For the time being, discs are the most convenient way to store and share video content. It's not the best way, that would be digital videotape. (I use DVCam.) Hard drives are great and I use them too, but kinda clunky for sharing - not to mention the technical hurdles portable drives present to the avg viewer. DVDs really aren't much of an improvement over VHS. (Twice the lines of resolution, to be exact.) But HD DVD (or Blu-Ray) discs really are spectacular when played on decent equipment. Players will start at about $500 (some players are here already) and burners will cost an additional $300-$400. Discs will hold 2 hours HD or 10 hours (or much more, depending on record speed) of SD video. Sure you can wait for prices to drop and they will. But I don't think the prices are out of line at all.

No Bose please. Bose is crap for the money. You can do much much better for that price range.

Please, please don't buy Bose. There are $300 speaker systems that sound better than these, because Bose practically uses the same parts! Here's a link to one of many articles that have been written about Bose's quality: click here

To quote from Michael Wong, a visitor to this site: "...a casual perusal of their website reveals that they have used money and lawyers to repeatedly abuse the patent system. They have patents for the Acoutimass (Helmholtz resonator), the Direct/Reflecting technology (multipolar speakers), their Acoustic Waveguide (transmission line), and their JewelCube technology (amalgam of transmission line and other old ideas). In each and every case, their patent is a joke; an obvious example of the all-too-common trick of making one minor alteration upon a pre-existing idea and then using an army of lawyers to get it patented... And why all the bother? Because it looks good to write "patented technology" on the box...". For a company that emphasizes cutting-edge research so much, I'm curious as to why their flagship 901 speakers have not seen any signigicant mechanical changes in the last 15 years. Where is the "better sound through research" going?
GOT THX?:
Considering the large emphasis on marketing that Bose places on its products as well as the ostentatious boasting of "innovation" and "performance", I am curious as to why none, count them: ZERO, of their speakers are THX-certified. George Lucas offers certification to any product from any company willing to undergo the scrutiny of his tests. I'm sure Dr. Amar Bose has brought in many Bose speakers to the Skywalker Ranch for certification only to have them rejected time and time again. I am no fan of THX-Certification myself; However, no one can deny that it is perhaps the singly most powerful marketing tool in the entire industry. One tool that Dr. Bose would not have overlooked, but again, one that he could not obtain for himself.
This is just talking out of his ass... No wonder BOSE is earning recognition adn awards worldwide very often. The THX-Certification is the biggest marketing move ever, he is such a retard he doesn't realize that BOSE does not need that certification and they have not tried to get it either because they don't need the boost in confidence, he is so ignorant that he really doesn't know that one of the best digital speakers in the world which are made by B&W are not THX certified (oh let me guess they got rejected too.) What a moron. This guy just reminds me of people that talk crap about HONDA when they don't really know what HONDA is all about or capable of ex. ASIMO and of course our S2000
. This guy is just another person with a lot of time on his hands trying to bend the truth, like I said, a lot of things he got right but he doesn't say it all and bends everything. Anyways to me BOSE has what I need for my money, "Beauty is on the eye of the beholder."
