Don't you mean M4P and not MP4?
M4P I believe is Apple's own format. The "P" stands for protected, which is limited for use on your Ipod. There is another extension called m4a which is for use on any ipod until it is converted to m4p. I believe there is a program called Jhymn you can download and it will convert it from a m4p to an mp3. This is why I refuse to buy an Ipod.
