how come magic johnson is not dead yet??
Yeah having HIV does not mean you're showing symptoms of being sick. And if I recall correctly, while drugs may make the viral load in the blood low to the point of being undetectable, one is not "cured." The virus still hangs out in the lymph nodes, can presumably still be transmitted, and will repopulate the blood if given the chance.
Lets clear some speculation:
1. Its not all about money(not his anyways). He is doing well because of the sophisticated combinationsof antiviral drugs, and the benefit of early detection. Many HIV+ individuals will live for 15-20+ with the disease.
2. He is a competitor. Unlike many patients who "give up" when they find out they are HIV+. Majic decided to fight the greatest battle of his life. He has a licensed nutritionist, and personal fitness instructor to help him with diet and exercise. This is where his money comes in.

I have read articles about different strains of the HIV virus. While drug treatments have commonly kept folks alive for 10+ years after infection, and money definately helps to afford premo treatment. Different strains can be aggressive while others take much longer to go from HIV positive to "full blown" AIDS. On strain mentioned in one of the articles had people who tested positive for the virus over ten years ago, and had never shown any symptoms of the disease.
That is why they still recommend that if two HIV positive folks are going to do the nasty, that they still use protection. If they got it from there partner, they would have the same strain, if not they may have different ones and someone with a less agressive strain should not unknowingly subject themselves to a more aggressive one. I think having more than one strain also makes treatment more difficult.
I don't know what strain Magic has but he may have a less agressive one. I think he is still alive is because he is a space alien.
