1. How did you propose? When? Where? Which day?

2. How much did you spend on the ring?

3. How long were you a couple before asking Him/Her?

4. How many times have you been married? If more than once, why?

I had been working at Round Table while we were going to college so we ate a lot of pizza. I had placed the ring on a little plastic cup and placed it in the middle of a pizza that I had picked up. When she came home, I could tell she had had a bad day. I played the perfect a$$hole boyfriend and asked her to get me a piece of pizza since she was in the kitchen. I could see her reflection in a picture frame and when she opened the pizza box she paused. Then she opened the ring box and I came into the kitchen on my knees and asked her.

We had been together for two 1/2 years. The actual ring was her grandmothers, I needed to buy a diamond for it. I can't remember the exact amount but $700 comes to mind. Being poor college students, it was all I could afford.

It is the first (and hopefully only) marriage for both of us.

Saturday, October 30, 2004 at Emeril's in South Beach. My fiancee loves cooking and is a big fan of Emeril. So I figured the best place to do would be over dinner at Emeril's. During the day, I had pre-arranged everything. I purchased some red roses along with rose petals. I went over to the restaurant to talk to the manager. I told him that I wanted to propose to my girlfriend tonight and gave him very specific instructions. The manager set us up at a table of my choice and took care of all my needs. I basically wanted them to present the ring, on a platter, with rose petals surrounding it as desert. We even set up a code word... when offered the chocolate desert I was to accept if the proposal is still a go or decline it if the proposal is off.

That night, after dinner, the waiter asked if we wanted the chocolate desert. I accepted. Then I told my girlfriend that I needed to use the bathroom. Instead I went out to the valet where my car was parked in front, popped the trunk and took out the ring. Upon entering the restaurant, I handed off the ring to the manager, who was waiting for me. I went back to the table, when the head waiter came to give us a private tour of the kitchen which was very cool. Once that was finished, we went for a short stroll outside by the pool area. Coming back in, "desert" was ready on the table. We sat down, the waiter lifted up the cover on the platter and there it was... the ring surrounded by rose petals. I got the ring, dropped down to one knee, popped the magical question, she said yes, I put the ring on her finger, the entire restaurant erupted in cheer and applause. People were even taking pictures. The manager then came over and offered his congratulations.

2. How much did you spend on the ring?

I inherited the diamond ring that my Dad used to propose to my mother. Since my mother isn't a big fan of wearing jewelry, it was worn once during their wedding and spent the next 35 years in a safe deposit box. Since the ring itself was vintage and not exactly to my fiancee's taste, I removed the diamond from the ring setting and placed it in a new modern, platinum setting from Mayors. I believe I spent about $600 for the new setting in total. My other option was to follow the traditional rule and throw down $18K for a Tiffany ring.

3. How long were you a couple before asking Him/Her?

8 months.

4. How many times have you been married? If more than once, why?

None. Our wedding is in almost two weeks... November 26th. And we both plan to be only married once.
Damn, what a story.
