How do I remove a link from my desk top?
I have been having problems with my copmuter. I downloaded spybot to block spy and adware, but it seems I got a bug from it. I have a giant link on my desktop. It cover the whole screen and I know my background is still behind it. My icons still show through however. I cant find the file to get rid of it.
Please help.
Also If I want to reboot the whole computer, but it didnt come with a backup disk what do I do?

quick check....
get Task Manager open (Ctl+Alt+Delete) and see if any programs are working.... Then check out Processes and see if there are any random ones, or better yet google them all. (Example: Firefox.exe or hpotdd01.exe) You'll most likely find your answer there.
But in the mean time (this might work) right click on your wallpaper, click Properties, Desktop tab, Customize Destop, Web tab, and make sure that nothing is checked there. That will make your desktop a webpage, and usually will end up slowing down your computer.

What do you mean by "a giant link" on your desktop? Is this an icon or is it a web page displayed by Internet Explorer? If it is just an icon, you can right-click on it and choose "delete". If it is a web page displayed by a browser (not the "active desktop", which makes your whole desktop a web page), then just close the browser. Or is it something else?
You do not need backup disks to reboot. Your computer reboots every time you turn the power ON (or hit the reset).

A "giant link" sounds odd. Can you elaborate on what it looks like?
A screenshot could help. Hit "Print Screen" on your keyboard to snap a picture of the screen, then paste it into an image editor like Paint. Post the screenshot here and I'm sure someone will know how to remove it.

I think its a virus. My background is a link to a web page. No way to close it. Not much comes up when I right click it.
I thnk its limited in my profile. I just started another and it opens with a normal background.

This weekend I re-formatted my HD and it now it fly's. If spybot/adaware doesnt pick anything up, just backup and re-format. Make sure to apply the updates as well, ie. ms04-11 and install virus scan s/w file latest definition file.

usually, when that occurs what you have to do is look at the top right hand corner of the moniter, after you see a tiny/invisible lining try to move it, once it moves it looks like a regular open application simply click on the X to close it.
what happens is that it opens up like an application and hides all tool and all borders making it seem like an desktop background picture, but simply try to move it from the top right hand corner then close it by clicking on the "X".
