How do you handle tailgater?
Wantone: I dont have a problem moving over for the car going faster, shit the driver could have a medical emergency for all I know. But when there is an open lane next to me and he/she precedes to highbeam me is when I get angry and stomp the brakes. It's these people with relatively high cars that do this ie; big rigs, trucks, SUV's, and raised trucks. I hate to admit, but I tried running this guy off the road cause he almost side swiped me trying to pass me while I was cruising 70 in the 2nd lane and he wanted to get into the 1st lane from the 4th. I normally would not have a problem with this, but he did it so sloppily that he almost ran into 3 other cars. And he has the nerves to give me a dirty look.
Why must you all do that? I hate it when i am driving up the highway, all alone, and i see a car going 55 in the far left lane. Right when i am a few cars behind, they tap their brakes. JUST MOVE OUT OF THE WAY!!.. The left lane is for passing. I don't care if it is 4 in the morning, if i am behind you, YOU should move. Just get it over with.
Remember, most of the time, if you are in the left lane, you should move when someone is coming up behind you.. That is just the common sense thing to do. Now, if you were in another lane, and someone is tailing you... You have every right to toss out your window a bucket of $hit.

I have a friend who, when some arse is tailgating her, will flip on the headlights. All they see is the quick flash of red lights in front of them and it usually causes them to reflexively hit their brakes--without putting her car in danger. 'Course it'll only work once.
I wish everyone here in the States would do as the Germans (and other Europeans I assume?) and keep outta the left lane unless they're passing. Driving through Germany was a blast last summer since everyone seemed to take the proposition that the left lane is for passing very seriously.

I forgot to mention what my Dad uses to keep tailgaters away (or people with their highbeams on right behind him).
On his beater (which he uses in the winter, mostly) he has a 150W spotlight aiming directly backwards. All he has to do is flip that baby on once and people automatically back off (especially at night). Extremely effective, even if it looks retarded.

Can't believe no one has mentioned "the gravel shower..." Here in Colorado there are usually copious amounts of road sand and gravel near the center line or the sideline. Driving near either will send these projectiles bacward at a tremendous rate of speed...
Of course I am not condoning this activity. I have just IMAGINED it would work...

Most people get so offended by people that are just trying to pass them .
What if they are in a rush and simply want to pass you.
I think people start power tripping and go into defense mode as if they own the road when this happens
I've seen people get totally pissed when I get behind them in my S2000 because they think I am Highbeaming them and they proceed to slam on the brakes and make hand gestures.
Why would you risk getting injured just to get some one back ?
I think we have been trained somehow to get pissed at people who have bright lights shinning in out cars.
Let's not forget that some people are just plain stupid and don't know that they have their highbeams on.
They don't realize that the blue light on their dash in the shape of a headlight means they have their highbeams on.
These people have their head up their ass.
They can be seen driving with all their lights off on dark nights and they don't notice that their dash lights are off as well.
I just let people pass . Its not worth getting into a confrontation .
I remember a few years ago when a new Mom was shot and killed by someone in another car while her husband was driving their Minivan on the Grand Central parkway .
The cops thought the Minivan may have accidentally cut off the shooter.
The shooter drove away and was never found.
