12 and 13 year olds throwing 90 mph, or am I reading that wrong. If so, no 13 year old can throw that fast. They'd kill their arm as well...

I'd see mid 80s almost every game. In national tournaments, there would be kids hitting 90. And yes, it was U-13.

Those must be man-sized kids, then. I don't know how you can get that kind of velocity unless you're pretty tall and have the muscles of a man. Technique is one thing but you do need some muscle, too.

15 makes a lot more sense but even so, that's still some crazy pitching speed! I was one of the fastest around when I played (much smaller league than most large American cities, though) and I still couldn't throw 90 mph!

Gotta be all the hormones and crap in the food, huh? Girls are "women" at 12 (or earlier) these days, so I guess it goes to reason that the guys could have the kind of power and speed of some men at moderately young ages too.

Well AAU was extremely competitive. Regional teams recuited the best players from their state. So you take the best players, put them on the best teams, then send them to a national tournament to play against the other best teams.. and you're bound to get some guys throwing heat

I was just hitting the 80's as a senior in HS.

I was pretty small @ 5'11'' 140.

Now I'm 175ish but haven't thrown a baseball for about 8years.

I would like to see how fast I would be now. But if I did it on a whim, I'm 100% sure I'd hurt something.

Low 90s?!?! That's throwing!
I know. When in the out field I could throw from about 300 ft out to home plate on the fly in most cases with a one hopper every now and then. I had a cannon arm.

I'm 5'10 but my wingspan is 6'1, very long arms hahaha.

Now stamina is my weak point. Throwing with that kind of velocity is hard for me to do without sacrificing accuracy which is why I was not in a pitching rotation.
Now I know i could have built my stamina but i was more valuable as a hitter and fielder.

Hitting wise I was a leadoff hitter and a base threat as well.

Speed kills.

some baseball 10th graders threw 84 as a high...dickholes....

PS I played a manly sport in high school....lacrosse. My shot was clocked at 86 mph and I was a small kid at 5"8', 150lbs. But I have long arms and had exceptional technique. That sport was great....you can whack people with basically a metal pipe and its LEGAL!
