....assuming I dont rush it? How many months or weeks usually?

you better not be in a rush because if you go the normal route, you're months out.

if your an american citezen its 4 weeks.

green card holder takes longer since you have to go to the embassy to get it.

legal residents fall under the same category.

not so legal residents tend to not get passports.

There's been a logjam in passport apps recently that puts the wait time around 10-12 weeks.

5-6 weeks, or at least that was how long it took 10 months ago.

It could take you three months now, as the passport travel requirements are creating a backlog of applications.

Why do you need a passport? You might be able to get away with a birth certificate and a government issued photo ID. Thats what you need for entry into Canada or Mexico.
