How many have changed careers?

Go fly in the military. That's what my dad did and then he went to Delta for 20 years and early retired when Delta management ran the company into the ground deliberately.
The airline industry definitely isn't what it used to be.

Everything sucks right now unless you work for the federal government.

That's because you've been flying the U.S. airlines, which cannot LEGALLY discriminate against looks when hiring (or they'd be out of business via lawsuits and fines quicker than they can blink). I was talking about Asian airlines, which usually only hire attractive attendants to attract more customers.
I've been on a few Asian airlines and some of the attendants looked like models and beauty pageants (of course, not all were attractive, but most were very easy on the eyes). Shwing!
And to answer your question, the airlines were JAL, Korean, China, Asiana, etc. One time I flew on an Argentina airline and I thought I had mistakenly stepped on a plane of beauty pageants.
Oh, about 20 years ago, I also flew on some Middle Eastern airline, and shwing shwing!

Consider yourself lucky for not being forced into a career change as many thousands have been over the past couple years. Your situation doesn't sound that bad compared to some people out there. How are you working 14 hours a day while only getting paid for 5-6 hours? Are you really working or just waiting around?
seems the opposite of the way it should be,.....my dad drove trains and he would get paid for his 8-36hrs he had to wait in the hotel.

What industry is what it used to be? The bailout industry!

If you're open to being a Fed, then you may want to browse through USAjobs.

If your lady has loot then just do a pros/cons of changing careers and weigh your options man. Grass can indeed be greener, but sometimes things just plain suck and you need a scenery change.
Working your way up the ladder somewhere else might just suck worse than what you're doing now though

To get where you are now, you probably instructed pilots to build up your hours. Was that a terrible gig? Would you consider doing something like that full-time? There may be a market for people who want to learn to fly, but don't have time to go to a flight school two hours away from their home.
What about buying a small plane and starting your own mini flight school? My point here is to demonstrate that the risk elsewhere may not be something you're willing to take on...or to give you ideas, whichever way you take it.
If you don't like the sound of any of what I already said, then you probably like the "glamor" of being an airline pilot. If that's the case, and money should isn't an issue, then maybe give yourself a deadline for a goal (in 3 years, if I'm not a Captain of a 737, then I'll quit, etc.).
Also, for what it's worth, I would have already quit.
