Off-topic TalkWhere overpaid, underworked S2000 owners waste the worst part of their days before the drive home. This forum is for general chit chat and discussions not covered by the other off-topic forums.
Hate to admit it, but have been pulled over more than 100 times(stopped counting after the magic 100), twice in one day on 3 different days. Friends used to track the number of times they were with me when I got stopped. Amazing part is that I have only gotten 4 tickets. Lived in a small town and knew everyone which helped. Had a couple "altered" and went to defensive driving 3 times. Most of the stops were in my younger days. Been stopped 3 times since I bought the first S2000 in 2001. Got one ticket and took defensive driving that once. The gray hair definitely has influence. If one of the young guys got stopped for some of my stops, they would probably be locked up. Got stopped doing 95 in a 35 (passed the cop) just outside of Kerrville recently. Gave me a warning and told me to be careful. Have to believe that I wasn't stopped because of the hair many other times as well. I guess there is reverse profiling. Won't mention some of the real bad ones I have not been ticketed for.
Only have had two speeding tickets since I turned 16. First one was when I was driving our 1999 GSR, state trooper clocked me at over 90, wrote ticket for 80 (10 over the 70 limit) still the fine was $140.00. Second I was in my Dakota on a 2 lane...Sheriff clocked me at 70 in a 50 wrote ticket for 5 over...fine was $90.00. That's the extent of my speeding tickets...I am now 53 years old, and both were within the last 5 years.
Thank God only one when I was 17 and that was dismissed if I didn't get another before I was 18. Not bad for 29 years of driving. You have to realize that I was driving during the 55mph thing. I also think people in my age group have more respect for the law however, we didn't have S2000s back then. 65 felt fast compared to 55. That was just too slow!
One time I got pulled over by the CHP for pulling around traffic, going off the road on two wheels and then pulling back onto the road. I was driving a pickup with about 15 empty beer cans rolling around in the back. I had been drinking but all of them weren't mine. I had no shirt on and was just being stupid. He walked up to my truck and asked if I had been drinking. I politely said yes but that I wasn't drunk. I told him that all the cans weren't mine. He said that I reminded him of his son, to go home and to not get back on the road that night or he'd write me up or worse. God's holy trousers I got lucky! I really do think that having respect for the law and for the officers and the job they have to do does help. The one ticket I did get was from a young cop. He had his lights on me for about 5 miles. I had a camper shell on my pickup and didn't see them because I was talking with a friend and not paying attention. The cop was pissed because I wouldn't pull over. I guess I'd be pissed too.
1 ticket so far, im 18 (knock on wood), ironically enough it was in my montero. Why i wont forget it? It was on SuperBowl Sunday last year, and i was going 45 in a 25, tryin to get to a buddies house before kick off.
I know i have had 8 moving violations since i've been driving....a hell of a lot of no front lic plate tickets, and 2 seat belt and a failure to yeild to an emergency vehicle (he said that i took too long to pull over) But i know this was because of my car, it was extremely flashy, (exceptionally beautiful though). Ahh and then got outta most of em, cops are a mf er in our area.
oh then they suspended my lic 3 yrs ago due to a failure to appear on one of the no front plate ticket...that is stupid, i forgot! But my insurance is only 122 mo w/250 deduct.
