Default How Many Times Can I Re-Write on a CD-RW????

I was just wondering how many times I could rewrite on a 'rewritable' CD-RW blank CD...

Is it only once?

Or more than once?

Anyone have a guaranteed answer?

Thanks

Many, many times (for a CD-RW), but you have to completely reformat it first which may take quite a bit of time on some burners.

A CD-R is write once (if the disc was closed).

With CD-R media being so dirt cheap these days I see no use for CD-RW. I've had CD-RW capabilities on my burners for over two years and I think I've used the RW disk 5 times total, and that's because media used to be a lot more expensive. As DaveZ mentioned, it is a pain, and take a while to erase the RW disk.

But to answer your question, no idea.

Actually its closer to 500,000 times, but like you said I don't think I've rewritten one before.

I'm pretty sure they work on the same principle as audio Minidisc's.

I've reused Minidisc's a lot with no apparent loss in quality.

I've read the specs on a few of the CDs I have and they have all stated at least 1,000 burns. It may vary from manufacturer to manufacturer though. BTW - It only takes about 30 seconds to erase the disc on a quick format.

I rewrite a CD every month to back up my data. So I guess I'll let you know in about 10 years.

It's usually a few hundred times. It's one of the least reliable removeable media.
Personally, I just stick to tons of CD-Rs.
