are dogs (or animals such as opossum, skunks..etc..) unable to see the bright head light? could it be because they turn on their "night vision mode" ON? or what? these animals seemed to run into things or they just seem to stay put like nothing happened not even a twitch...

one time i was traveling on a road at night. doing about 50mph, the speed limit was around 40, however there was no traffic (it wasnt as reckless as it sounds). i saw a deer run into the road and i jerked the wheel slightly to the right (the deer came from the left side of the road) and instead of getting a deer through the windshield, it's head hit my left sideview mirror. i turned around to see if it was alive, and it was on the ground still breathing. i just drove away, dont know what happened to it. it sucked, but it couldve been a lot worse. and the other day i hit a squirrel that ran into the road chasing something. whatever he was chasing was probably happy though...

My previous comment was loaded with sarcasm. My bad for it coming off as an animal killer. I always wondered too why they don't get scared and run off. I know for accidents involving children, injuries tend to be on the ventral region of the body because they don't yet have the reflex to turn away from bright lights etc. Maybe this is why dogs and other animals dont turn away. Theyre just blinded by the lights.

I ran over a racoon once... the thing was huge.

It really wasn't my fault though because it was inevitable.

I was just driving and the thing ran into the middle of the road and ran back to the bushes and it ran back in the middle of the road.

I ran over it and my whole car just jumped ...

... but when i looked into the rear view, it was still alive and it ran away...

oh by the way .. did I mention that the racoon was abnormally huge ... It was like 2 boxes of 36 packs of Pepsi combined ... maybe even a little bigger

I love dogs and animals in general. In fact I have four dogs in total, BUT if a dog or cat pops out in the middle of the road and other cars are around the only thing you can do is to maintain your direction otherwise a sudden change of lane could cause a possible accident.

I'm sorry to hear that, but at least you are ok. The car can always be fixed.
