Default I found a turtle!

It was walking in the middle of the road and I decided to keep him/her. Does anyone know what turtles eat, necessities, how often they eat, etc? It's a b!tch trying to find useful info on the web these days.

seriously, put it back into its natural habitat. not only does it suck for this creature to have to lose its freedom and be placed in captivity, but it's extremely hard to keep a wild animal alive in captivity. their nutritional requirements are generally different that those bred by pet stores, not to mention, the shock inself in being placed in a completely different climate/environment can be enough to kill the animal itself...

If you have a fenced in yard, put it in the yard.......... it will still figure out how to get out.....(unless it is an electric fence )

We have found a few and just throw them in a neighbors back yard with his fence.... then a few days later we try to find it and they are always gone.?.... ummmmm turtle soup.

I bought a turtle off of my friend when I was 8 for $0.50. About a day later, I had it on top of the grill, then the box was tipped over and the gate was open. Mom said he got out and put the gate open itself.

If I ever find a turtle as smart as that, I'll go on Letterman.

I have a thing with keeping animals in captivity, but if you care for it properly it's almost humane. You can get turtle food at the pet store as afore mentioned, but you need to find out what kind of turtle it is before making living arrangements for it.

What works best is to get one of those big plastic tubs and put about 4" of water in it and a few rocks that are big enough for it to sleep on and be out of the water. Buy a light to attach to the side as well.

MeTh222,

What kind of turtle is it? Any chance you can take a pic and post it? I've used to keep a lot of reptiles and might recognize it. Or, just describe it the best you can.
