I live in the ghetto- how should I protect myself?
you can get any weapons you want, but if you gonna shoot or stab someone you better expect someone else to come after you. you gotta just deal with it. nobody in the ghettos rolls by themself. i live in the ghettos too and if you dont know people then all you can do is put up with everything.
yeah, i agree with the majority. pay the penalty and move out. like someone already said, all the loss and damages to your possession over the next year will probably cost more than the penalty itself. not to mention your safety and peace of mind, both of which you really can't put a price tag on. if the rest of your roomies refuse to move out, and the lease is not under your name, then just bail. just explain to them why you feel you must leave, to minimize and hard feelings between you and your buddies. if they can't understand you reasons, then screw them. they're not really your friend then.
Damn man. I see you said that you live close to Over the Rhine (the area of the riots a few years back). I can vouch for the race tensions in that area. Unfortunately, and tragically, there are some African Americans in that area who *HATE* white people with an absolute burning passion. I have lived in a lot of different states/areas and I have never seen racial tensions comparable to that area. Granted, I have never been to compton, but my Parents live in North Carolina and it's a night and day difference.

Saab, how do the rest of your roomies feel about staying there?
Doesn't that college of yours teach street smarts Brian?
I've lived in the ghetto before. Parked my mustang in the street (which was a really nice car at the time) and NEVER got messed with (flame suit on
). I'm affraid that your problem is that you are too timid, In which case a weapon will only hurt you. I could tell that the second Joe pointed you out to me at FWT. You wear it on your sleeve. No offense, I'm just trying to help you. I think you may have been affraid of these guys before they had said or done anything. Honestly, they see that and feed off of it. Don't be affraid to talk to them even after they've made a comment about racisim or whatever. 9 times out of 10, they're just talking $hit, nothing more. BUT, don't piss them off. You've got to be cool, without coming off like a prick. I guarentee you'll be like the dude in Road Trip up on stage dancing, and they'll be keeping an eye on your car for you.
just my .02

If you can't move for a year, I hate to say it but you should store the S somewhere, or git rid of it and get a cheap car. It is sticking out like a sore thumb in the neighborhood saying "Hey everybody!!! There is some good stuff at this house!!!! Come and mess with these guys!!!""""
I am not saying that you do not have a right to drive it, don't get me wrong. You are just drawing tons of attention to yourself, which is not a good idea in a bad neighborhood.
It is not a bad idea to get somekind of money belt or one of those wallets you carry around your neck, and keep a cheap wallet with a library card and $2 in you back pocket if you have to go walking around.
I have lived in a bad neighborhood for 2 years in college and would never do it again. I was never bothered or hurt in any way, the worst that was done was someone mashed a package of Hi-Ho crackers on the back window of my rx7.

I know it may sound like I am overreacting a little to some people (coughsvtmach1cough
), but considering living here has cost me over $3000 in stolen and damaged property in one month, I think I am being pretty rational.
