When I quit the first time(started back about 4 months later) I quit cold turkey. It's hard. something that helped me quit, is that I didn't give myself time to smoke. I would stay busy all the time so that I didn't even think about it. Also, "filling the void" helps alot too, I used straws. Besides the chewing habit I have everytime I get a soda at a fast food restraunt, it works! ha-ha. Get your wife/girlfriend or someone you care about to help you.

Good luck man!

light a cigarette, burn yourself with it everytime you want to smoke.

Jerk it everytime you feel a craving.

I quit by dipping. Nasty, damn straight. But it controlled cravings for cheap (nicorette is expensive) and was gross enough that I would never let myself take it up as a long time habit. Worked for me...but probably only me
Yay instead of dying of lung cancer, you're gonna die of tongue and lip cancer. They might even cut off part of your tongue and your teeth will be so damn rotted out, you'll look like a jack-o-lantern.

I'm going through a "not seriously trying to quit" phase right now. I stopped smoking for five days cold turkey. My bff came over and we had about 8 beers each so a cigarette was a must.

I then quit for another five straight days until yesterday. I bought a pack and I've smoked six cigs.

Good luck. My issue is the headache's and feeling of constant hunger, otherwise it would be easy.

good luck! it's weird, but all the people i know who successfully quit smoking all did it cold turkey vice using patch or gum. probably about a dozen people. how many people have actually had or know of success using a non-cold turkey method?

I haven't had a smoke in 6 weeks, just laid them down to see how long I could go. The first week, to my surprise wasn't near a bad as I though it was gonna be, but the second week however was pure hell on earth. On the eighth day after work I went to Target and p/u the lowest mg. nic patch that I could find, (Target brand of course) then went home and cut them into fourth's and put one on for the evening. By doing this, you get just a little nic when you need it most, and 1 box of 7 patches will last you 28 days...if you wear one everyday.

I don't wear them everyday but just before I have a complete melt down I will put on 1/4 of a patch and wear it for several hours then take it off. This, so far has worked for me taking the edge off, especially when it would have been just as easy to have had a smoke.

I do keep LifeSavers wintogreen mints at home, car and office along with a pretty healthy supply of gum.

Good luck with it....I know it sucks, I smoked for over 20 years.

I quit cold turkey for 6 months. I started to drink water a lot and nothing else. For me, drinking coffee or soda adds more to the craving. hope that helps
