Hey good for you for quiting. I agree with what has already been said here about finding something to "fill the void" (people are avoiding calling this an oral fixation, but that's what their talking about). I also kind of cheated, and smoked a lot more herb when I quit, and that helped a lot, but when I was out, it was mostly about surrounding myself with other people that didn't smoke and having friends reinforce that I was doing a good thing for myself. It's always easier to quit when you have people rooting for you.

what helps is that vicks vapor rub in a tube (inhaler). take a giant hit of it when u crave. Its 'dense' so it feels like smoke in your lungs

HAHA dood this thread is somewhat classic, great posts in here

btw one time I heard an interesting way someone quit, this one guy who tried everything and still couldnt stop was treated by getting locked in a room w/ all the cigarettes he could want, box after box of them, he was told to smoke as much as he could, a day or so later he was so disgusted by cigarattes he never smoked again.

btw get chantix!
its a revolutionary wonder drug surpassed by none!

I haven't had a smoke in 6 weeks, just laid them down to see how long I could go. The first week, to my surprise wasn't near a bad as I though it was gonna be, but the second week however was pure hell on earth. On the eighth day after work I went to Target and p/u the lowest mg. nic patch that I could find, (Target brand of course) then went home and cut them into fourth's and put one on for the evening. By doing this, you get just a little nic when you need it most, and 1 box of 7 patches will last you 28 days...if you wear one everyday.

I don't wear them everyday but just before I have a complete melt down I will put on 1/4 of a patch and wear it for several hours then take it off. This, so far has worked for me taking the edge off, especially when it would have been just as easy to have had a smoke.

I do keep LifeSavers wintogreen mints at home, car and office along with a pretty healthy supply of gum.

Good luck with it....I know it sucks, I smoked for over 20 years.
You are just getting yourself mentally hooked on something else by doing that. The physical addiction to nicotine is gone in anything from 3-6 days, after that, it is only a mental addiction you are fighting. You don't need patches to get over that, you just need "something else" to take your mind off the craving.

hmm...last time i tried cold turkey it took nearly a month to stop the cravings. try this...start dating a REALLY REALLY hot girl that hates smokers/being around smokers, etc. smoke behind her back when you're not meeting her, just make sure you have a lot of caffeine or drop before you meet her otherwise you will feel drowsy all day from the lack of nicotine stimulation and she will think you're boring or just too introverted. then you start getting more serious with her, voila! you HAVE to stop smoking otherwise you can't hit that anymore!!! and there you have your motivation to quit!! didn't work for me but it won't hurt to try.

I quit smoking once with the patch then started back up again about a year later. My GF didn't know I started back up again so I did it behind her back for a little while. We decided to buy a house together so once that happened, I HAD to quit and I did it cold turkey because I am too cheap to buy patches again. It's been over 9 years since I've had a smoke and I' love it. I guess that was my motivation.

Good luck man.

I did it cold turkey and quit for 2 years. Everytime I had craving, I just chewed coffee straw or ate. Gained 10lbs in a month, but You'll feel so much better.

Ha, classic... actually I did smoke for a few years, so did all my friends. I met the girl of my dreams (now my wife). She thought smoking was disgusting and that was all the motivation I needed. Quit cold turkey and haven't looked back.
