Adaware works great, as suggested by Woodson & Electrichink. Unfortunately, it won't get rid of the spyware already installed. You also may want to install Popup Stopper to prevent those annoying popups. Both are free on the internet.

You also may want to delete all of your cookies and start over again with all of your passwords. That gets rid of a bunch of stuff that sites put on your computer. An alternative is to individually go through the cookies and pick out the ones you know you don't want. That can take time, because there are probably hundreds of cookies on your browser.

If you know the offending executable, but Windows won't allow you to remove it since it's "Currently in use...", reboot the computer. Before the startup screen, press F8 and run the system in Safe Mode. It won't look pretty, but you should be able to remove the offending programs. Reboot, and that should prevent them from running. If you really want to clean the system up, run RegEdit and do a key search for the program names you just deleted, then delete the keys.

Go download HijackThis, freeware registry scanning/repair software. Run the scan and delete or fix any offending files. Just make sure you know what you are doing. You can tell most of the spyware in the list just by looking at it. The program works great and removes already installed spyware, porn dialers, etc. You will probably want to pick up one or two of the programs listed above as well, so nothing gets back in again. You can find the program here:

Good luck.
