insomnia...
I need to get off of this sleeping-in schedule. I can't seem to get to bed anytime before four AM these days. anyone have any suggestions? tylenol pm does evil things to my head, so if you know of anything else over the counter that works for you, let me know.
I never sleep well. I might get a couple hours every night then it catches up to me and BAM I sleep for like 12-16 hours. Been that way for 15 years. Not good, but I guess I'm used to it.
Diphenhydramine (antihistamine) is used in most over-the-counter sleep aids. Just use the allergy pills -same stuff. 50 mg of it will get ya sleeping.

Read a boring book or watch a boring show or drink caffeine in the afternoon so by evening you will have running out of energy. Or eat a heavy dinner so you can't get up and all you can do is fall asleep. Or have hours of sex and that should drain you before 4am?
Melatonin works for me. Induces drowsiness and usually leaves me feeling rested upon awakening. Start with low dosages i.e. 1-3 mg. I've read that the general rule for treating jet lag is 1 mg per hour in the difference of time zone. For instance, Hawaii is four hours behind central time so for the average weight adult, four mg the first night, tapering off by 1 mg each night thereafter, should be sufficient. As with all supplements, research and verify possible interactions with other medications you may be taking. Not nearly as effective if taken close to time of alcohol consumption. That's what I've heard anyway.
You should also stay away from your computer during late night/early morning hours as the bright light of the monitor presumably affects sleeping patterns. Of course, when I'm working through an insomniac cycle I always end up on the internet.
Also, alcohol only knocks you out for a couple of hours before waking irritable, dehydrated and sluggish....again, just something I've been told.

I'm with Pueo...(hi you, long time, no see!)
Melatonin does a pretty good job...but, and I'm no doctor, it seems that you would want to adjust your schedule gradually. If I tried to do that more or less all at once, I would be tossing and turning endlessly.
I have terrible problems getting to sleep...I must be afraid that I'm going to have dreams about spiders! BTW, I have camel spiders in my shower EVERY DAMN MORNING!!

Good luck, man...insomnia's a bitch.
