International space station to be plunged into the ocean
As NASA plummets into the depths of being forgotten by new generations, as will the ISS. Certainly is a waste considering it and the shuttles that went to it cost a hundred billion or two. No big deal I guess. Oh well, off to our regularly scheduled boring science.

I see this as a power move by Russia. I'm betting that they'll launch their own satellites up, that are not international. We don't have a space program, and we ride off of theirs. Of course I could be wrong. I highly doubt this is the end of "non boring science".
That's pretty normal for satellites beyond their usefulness. I'd guess the station will be stripped of anything useful or hazardous prior to re-entry, but I also don't expect much to survive the fall. Little will land in the ocean but slag and ash.
And a lot can change in 9 years. It might very well remain in orbit for another 20 years.

Fwiw we still have a space program, we're just going back to rockets from the orbiters.
