Default iPhone. June 29th. Who's getting it?

I"m going to pony up my 600 smackers and 2 year contract for this thingie. I know all the criticism of it, but I need a new toy. What about the cingular edge network? THat's not 3g right? That sucks, but I cancelled my mobile internet recently because I wasnt' getting my 40 dollars worth with bringing my laptop to work and using the wifi at work.

Anyone else going to be a Steve Jobs lemming and buy one too?

No way. I'd maybe pay $200, but $600 is too much for a toy.

I'd much rather buy a Treo than that thing.

well... i have seen the iphone in person, and it complete blows away all competetion. the treo is nothing compared to it. the cingular edge network is kinda slow (use the wifi), but the display is soooooooo purty. my only gripe is the lack of 3g and touch sceen keyboard is not very accurate, especially if u have fat fingers. batterylife is okay, and videos look great. the camera is not bad. also, it does not come with an aim and the browser does not support flash yet... the next generation of this phone will be a lot nicer, but this one will mesmerize you with its flipping screen and zooming in capabilites.

if i were important enough or busy enough or if my ipod and phone break simultaneously, i would get this phone.

I won a free one in a fundraiser competition so I should be getting it soon. Hope it works better than my POS Motorola Razr.

...plus, the "wifey" is already complaining about me purchasing my Prodrives and Mugen HT

I have a Treo 750 and while I like it, I don't love it. I paid 500 for it so 600 isn't much more. Plus I can write it off as a business expense and hopefully make some of my money back on the treo on ebay.

Trainwreck, thanks for the 1st hand info. It's good to know from someone who saw it that it is cool. I'll probably get rid of this one and get the second gen when it comes out too.

If I had that kinda loose pocket change to throw around I would def get an iphone. Apple has been putting out some quality products these past few years (success of the ipod line and growing market share of the Mac line of computers) so I would expect no less from the iphone. The fact that Apple has been expanding into new markets with force tells me that they are serious about whatever products they develop (ie. Safari browser for Windows).

On the flip side, with the introduction of any new technology or product that hasn't had any real consumer use/testing waiting for a couple of revisions is always a good idea. Letting some time slide so that any major problems and/or technological issues get resolved through extensive product use by the masses would be a safer bet.

Bottom line: if I had that kinda money to throw around on a whim's notice (which raj seems to have ) I would do it, but until then I give it 2-3 months before I go out and buy it.

LOL, I have a plan. I am going to get 2 iphones. My wife doesn't care about them at all so I'll sell the one I get for her for a lot of cash. Top dollar will be paid for one without a contract on ebay the first day I believe. So I think I'll recoup my purchase price.

Apple plans on releasing a million units. which is a lot of phones, I think they have made 3 million (rumor). And they only work on the cingular network. however, i am sure some kid from dubai or japan will buy it off ebay for some rediculous price like they bought my Wii's. Worst case scenario you will have 2 iphones you can whip out while driving your S2k, making you look twice as cool.
