Thumbs up iPhone owners!

Has anyone bought insurance for their iPhone?

I'm within one month of my Sprint contract fulfillment and I am making a shopping list of everything I want with my 3GS.

I'm rather clumsy so I've thought about doing some research on insurance coverage. Does anyone have any experiences with any types of insurance or warranty coverage, (like AppleCare, Best Buy Geek Squad, etc.)?

thanks!

AppleCare isn't insurance. It's just an extended warranty so it won't cover you dropping it. The best buy insurance is $180/year and doesn't cover theft, loss, or water damage. That seems like a total ripoff to me. Just put $15/month in a savings account and you'll probably come out way ahead. You can replace the screen if you crack it for less than one year of best buy's overpriced insurance.

Best thing is just be careful with it and save up some money if you want to feel safe. The insurance plans are throwing money away IMO.

Majority of ATT's best smartphones are not available with insurance.

I had a Blackberry Curve before the iPhone and they wouldn't let me insure yet.

The only smartphone that was insurable at the time was their Windows phone like Blackjack and Palm Treo.

Just be careful with your iphone and baby it, one drop and it's gone most of the time or get one of those larger plastic enclosure cases which look pretty silly most of the time, but if you're clumsy it's worth it.

or do what I do, if i know i'm going somewhere where i am more than likely to drop it or lose it or do something stupid, i pop the sim out and put it in my spare phone (HTC Tilt) which I'm sure you're not use to with Sprint but it's great to swap phones in seconds.

Just spend $10-30 on a decent case. Mine has saved my ass a few times now.

They make tons of money on those plans and they don't do that by paying out more than they bring in.

A decent iPhone case is all you really need. My 3G has been through hell, but still looks brand new and works just as good because of the cases I've used.

My 1st gen iPhone has been dropped off the roof of a 2 story house right on the sidewalk, played submarine in a pond and glided about 3' down, been dropped inumerable times, even was used as a hockey puck on a busy street and run over by a fully loaded bus and all it's got is a slight scratch on the bottom of the screen.

So why would I need insurance?

Well, I dropped my Iphone on Sat and it caused for some of the screen to go out....

Luckily, it didn't scratch when it hit the floor.. Just some of the screen wouldn't work (like an inch worth)

I went back to the store super nice and acted like nothing happened... If you go to the apple store when they are super busy, and be nice.. chances are they will just replace your phone like they did for me, for free

This phone is super delicate though.... I dropped my blackberry 10000's of times, and not one issue.. the first time I dropped my Iphone, look what happened

Im really starting to regret buying this thing
