Regarding Verizon and LTE: http://www.engadget.com/2009/08/14/verizon...k-in-seattle-a/
[QUOTE]Big Red's flexing its 4G muscle today, announcing that it has successfully completed the first true tests on its nascent LTE network -- end-to-end data calls that presumably approximate real-world usage. The action actually happened way back on July 15 in Seattle, while Boston just went down today -- the two markets where Verizon said it'd be running the first trials -- both on 700MHz spectrum won not terribly long ago. LG and Samsung provided the mysterious, unspecified "trial devices," but don't worry, Motorola fans -- Verizon says they've got devices in the pipeline as well. Both Seattle and Boston currently have ten LTE cell sites live as the carrier trudges toward a 2010 date with destiny when it'll take "up to 30" markets live, at which point EV-DO and HSPA will theoretically feel like trying to send packets via carrier pigeon. Progress!

Update: We just spoke with Verizon Wireless CTO Tony Melone to expand a bit on the trials. Here are some of the key takeaways:

The recently announced HTC HD2 will probably come to Verizon before the IPhone. As much as I like the IPhone, I personally think it will never make it to Verizon. Hopefully someone proves me wrong.

4g is years off, don't let verizon and sprint fool you that they have 4g networks. a true 4g network would be utilizing LTE. the carriers that are stating they are upgrading to 4g is actually closer to 3.5g also known has HSDPA.

hell, they don't even have a handsets that can be used on a LTE system...

By the time Verzion gets the iphone, there will already be other phones out that are better than the iphone.

When I bought my iphone I overheard at&t is the only phone company allowed to legally sell the iphone until 2011 or 2012.

I have the iphone but in my honest opinion, there are other phones out there that are just as good if not better now.

better then the 3gs? im sorry ive had almost every smartphone out in the US market and most of them dont add up. some are comparable depending on what you use it for but def. not better. and that HTC phone is already at a disadvantage. its called WINDOWS mobile which blows. no matter what anyone says, even though you can run custom gui's, it is still slow and freezes. iphone OS is way more stable. only competitor in terms of stability and speed would be blackberry os. I have heard the new palm webOS is good but i have yet to try it. ill be trying that next month hopefully.

If Verizon can sell me a 4G iPhone service (at my current $30/mo price) I'll jump ship on AT&T so fast that the glass screen would shatter on my 3G iPhone from the sonic boom!

I hate to be an iphone fan boy but I have had many other smart phones and I feel like the windows phones are the jack of all trades and the master of none. The iphone does everything I need it to and more easily than any thing else I've used.
