My wife and I have worked very hard to teach our kids to do what's right, by what we tell them and, as best we can, by what we do.

This morning our son was on his way to school. There was a fire engine or ambulance coming through the intersection on a cross street, so he dutifully stopped, as he's been taught.

The idiot behind him didn't stop, and rear-ended our son's Civic. So our son did the right thing and POW!

He's OK , but the car is likely totalled.

Fortunately there was an Anaheim police officer at the intersection who saw everything, so he didn't even have to take a statement from our son. In fact, before my wife even arrived there to get him and arrange to have the car towed the policeman had already forwarded a report to the Auto Club.

Please pay attention for sirens and lights when you're driving. Dump the cell phone, turn down the stereo, and make sure you don't run into someone's son or daughter.

Thanks!

I have seen two similar incidents recently, they certainly make me bloody angry.
On both occasions drivers who were not paying attention tried overtaking cars which had pulled over for ambulances, almost forcing the ambulances to crash into them.
I struggle to understand how people can miss the flashing blue lights or very loud sirens.

Both of the drivers were women.

glad to hear your son is ok.

I admit that I really hate people who are not pay attention when they are driving. especailly people that suddenly slow down just to answer the cell phone.

My wife and I pray together every morning before we get out of bed. One item we always include is that everyone in our household make it home safely that evening.

The car can be replaced.

Glad your son is alright. Did he pull over to the side?

I always see idiots trying to race through an intersection when emergency vehicles are coming through. The cop should've given that guy a ticket for failure to yield.

it doesn't help that a major selling factor of new cars is how quiet they are inside, with all the windows rolled up. If you want a mobile lounge go to Dulles Airport and get off our streets.

Glad to hear your son is okay!

Good to hear everyone is alright. I know that your prayers have alot to do with it. Keep it up!

Here in Carrollton we've had such a problem w/ people running red lights that the city has put up signs in particular intersections that say something like red light strictly enforced or something like that (sorry I can't remember - what does that tell you about the effectiveness of their campaign?). I guess that enough people have been killed that the city finally decided to do something about it.

My brother saw an accident not 2 days before Christmas (around 11pm) where 3 drunk hispanics in a honda Accord ran an intersection and plowed into a woman in a saturn (driver's side) who was pulling out into traffic (light turned green). They hit her at over 70mph (speed limit was around 40 or 45 mph). The 2 hispanic passengers survived and fled the scene, the driver remained in the car, unconcious. My brother went to the woman's aid but she was dead at the scene. Her car was completely destroyed and was in the shape of a crescent (from being T-boned by the accord). According to my brother, it was very horrific. Even the cops told my brother not to pull out of intersections right away anymore.

Just goes to show that you never know what's going to happen. All you can do is manipulate what you have control over. For everything else you just have to pray (for me anyway). Be smart, stay safe, everyone.

In Vancouver we have red light intersection cameras, where if you run a light, a camera takes a picture of your liscence plate and then proceeds to send you a bill of $140.

You can bet that a lot of drivers won't even try to go through an orange light now.
