Its that time of week, gas prices!!
I don't pay any attention to the price. If my car is empty, I have no choice but to put gas in or walk. It costs what it costs.
Supply and demand says it would be cheaper if we did not have so many 10-15 mpg three ton hulks driving around, but people buy what they want to drive just like we drive an S. I just think it is funny when my co-worker whines about the price of gas and he drives a suburban. That would be like complaining about the how high milk prices are getting while you pour a gallon onto the floor. I only feel bad for the guys that drive a gas hog out of neccessity, like truckers or construction workers. If you drive a Hummer because you think it is cool, great, just dont whine that you go through $80 a week in gas because you should have known that going in.
I work in the field of transportation and researched gas prices and crude reserves for a paper. I found mostly biased articles but the one I read that seemed to be free of bias stated that we had about 20 years of "cheap" gas left. At that point the easy-to-get-at reserves would be largely depleted and more expensive methods of extraction would have to be used. Or gas would have to be refined from something called "heavy sludge" (if I remember correctly) rather than crude which would also be more expensive and produce lots of sulfur as a biproduct. If Road Rage is out there, I thought he worked with petroleum, maybe he knows more about this.
Gas may go back down, but Greenspan says we may have to get used to the new normal of $1.75+ gas. It is somewhere around $2 here now.
