P.S. The brands you mentioned are not even comparable because they are like pebbles compared to stones , i.e. tiny companies to big conglomerates.
So Ferrari is a "pebble" and we should buy "stone" Hyundais?

Why should I care that Sony makes TV's when I'm buying headphones or a computer from them?
This right here strikes the point.

XBR9 picture quality is inferior to Pioneer Kuros. The XBR8 is the comparable one.

FYI, those headphones were on sale for $100.

You should really open your eyes and choose what's best out there and not stick to a brand just because it's that brand.

Sony is like a multi-sport athlete in a world of sports filled with single-sport athletes.
Why is this a good thing? Ever watch the Olympics? Check out the Nordic combined event for example. It's a combination of ski jumping and cross-country skiing. Compared to the people who concentrate only on the ski jumpers, they just suck at it.

Honda makes a great variety of vehicles, as opposed to the much smaller specialty manufacturer Lotus. But these days if I want a new sports car, I sure as hell wouldn't pick Honda over Lotus.

I don't think Sony is the best company out there, but they do make good quality products (aside from in audio, which I can agree they pretty much suck there)

For the price, there are tons of TV's I'd rather have over a Sony. If price isn't taken into consideration though Sony is one of the best looking televisions on the market (not the best, THE best is really majorly based on opinion) however comparing Sony to Bose is very mismatched in my opinion. Sony makes above average products (again aside from audio) and sells them at a high price. Bose makes below average products and sells them at a very very premium price.

If we're complaining about companies that over charge for average products and sell pretty much only because of marketing though I find it funny you bring up Apple. Apple makes good products but they're no better than anyone else's unless you're video editing with them you can get much more productivity and compatibility out of a PC for less than half the price. In my opinion Apple should be lumped in with the Bose category way before Sony should.

I was probably off base to throw Apple in the mix. Apple is more of a personal preference. When I buy an Apple, I buy for build quality and ease of use (I was a Windows power user and developer for a number of years) and I've never been as happy as I am with my Macbook Pro. It's not nice to turn something on and it just works. Not having to work to make my computer work is a beautiful thing. I'd say that the two objects that make my life easier on a daily basis are my S2000 and my Macbook Pro.

Haha... he is actually quoting wikipedia.

Wikipedia is like that fat chick at the bar that everyone knows. She's okay for your own personal, PRIVATE use... but NEVER let anyone find out about you two.

I had ear surgery when I was a young teen and my canals are just too small for ear buds to fit comfortably. I have tried dozens. I have to use quality over-the-ear noise canceling headphones now that I've tried them. A good way to test them is to go to Guitar Center or a similar music shop and have a go. I'm a drummer so I prefer to hear accentuated lower frequencies. I use the Equation XB-1's (almost identical to the RP-22X current model). I am extremely satisfied.

wow... so much fail in this thread by OP. I used to be in the Home theater business too. More of a videophile though. Never got into the audio stuff because to be honest its shit expensive. Sony is all marketing. They are way overpriced. I use to get cost and samsung is where id put my money if i was going to get a lcd or led lcd. IMO the blacks on the whole XBR line SUCKS. Sony and companies like Bose are the everyday persons "high end" crap. most of their money goes to marketing. Oh and just because Plasmas are being discontinued doesn't mean they do not give you a better overall picture quality.

oh and to who ever said that Apple should be in there too, i do agree to an extent. They spend a tremendous amount on marketing. But you can't argue that they have been one of the most innovative mainstream companies to date. Their laptops may be expensive but they have very very high build quality and customer service. Not outsourcing their call centers to India also increases costs. You have to pay to play. And mac os is more stable than anything pc has ever done and arguably better for many applications.

Oh and OP sony made the first oled but they have been falling behind to samsung. Samsung has the largest oled tv to date.
