Just got a Motorola V710
I almost got the v710, but I read lots of negative reviews about it--acutally the phone sucks. I really had hoped it would be good, but the camera takes crappy pictures and the whole bluetooth being crippled on the phone by verizon pisses me off. Besides, the phone is the size of a remote control. I bought the LG VX7000 and I am glad I did. However, I wish verizon didnt cripple the bluetooth. I love motorola, but apparently they just put the phone out really fast. The V3 is sweet, too bad verizon can't pick it up since the phone is GSM.
If you like it, I'm glad, but I couldnt buy it after all the reviews I read and trying the phone out myself.

the v710 is a great phone. but thats it. the camera on it sucks. like RickJames stated, the bluetooth is disabled except for headsets and handsfree usage.
Many people love the way the phone works. the reception on it is awesome. If you are looking for a phone that picks up well, this is for you. If you are looking for a blinger and likes to show it off with cool features and gagets, well, you need to look elsewhere.
Verizon does not put out phone fast. We are probably the slowest among the other carriers, if not the slowest. The problem is that we want to make sure everything works, and well, sadly, it takes time. They also do some dumb stuff, ie. Bluetooth limitations, that pisses many people off, especially those that work for VZ.

This phone operates on both CDMA and GSM so if you're a Verizon customer and travel internationally frequently, this should be the perfect phone.
Your best bet is simply to pick up a spare phone for use in Europe (generally the cheapest phones are in Ireland and Portugal) with a prepaid plan.
I've played with the Moto mentioned in this thread at a major vendor in their test lab. Buggy as all hell, but who knows that was some time ago maybe they have fixed the issues -- but then in my view Motorola has not made a good phone in a few years.
Regarding the inqiury about a good U.S. GSM carrier. Cingular and T-Mobile are your two major players. T-Mobile in my view has a better network and often more bandwidth in major cities, however their customer care and billing system are both terrible, especially after their integration with Atlanta based power-tel a few years back and their taking on many of the senior idiots from that company.
lucky for Verizon Customers, the Motorola 840, which is the 710 but global, is CDMA 800 / CDMA 1900 / GSM 900 / GSM 1800 so you will be able to take the phone around the world.
Since Vodafone is part owner of VZ, it makes sense that Verizon will have a phone that will be able to use the world's largest provider's network.
