We have 130 already and are not going to scrap them. The gov canceled the order for an additional 170 and retains the ability to order more in the future.

The f22 is awesome, but buying any more of them is a severe misallocation of defense spending. 140 million for a plane with capabilities which will, in all likelihood, never be necessary. Maybe in peacetime (damn Chinese!), but not with 2 wars going on - and especially when more f22s won't aid in attaining the objectives of those two wars.

What in the world are we going to fight them for? Taiwan? Cross straight relations are much warmer and trending upwards. Sparks will always fly given the Chinese government's politicization of nationalism, but neither they, Taiwan, nor the USA will ever light the match. Even historically China has not expanded territorially unlike other ascendant great powers. Nor is invasion fitting with their FP objectives. China has aggressively pursued a soft power approach in SE asia in order to strengthen its position as the power player within the existing international political economy. Sure sure, China is big, often bewildering, and its rise is incredibly unique. But they aren't stupid.
