Default Ladies/Mothers

So my wife gave birth to our daughter on Friday and all along her friends have been preaching to me that I need to buy her jewelry. Well, that just made me not want do it because they were so annoying and i hate giving gifts that are "mandatory".
Now that Emma is here, I want to give my wife a gift to symbolize the occasion, and not just be another piece of jewelry. Something with true meaning.
I was thinking a necklace as a way to be near her heart, but am having problems deciding.

My budget is approx $300.

I saw something like this:
http://www.sorellajewelry.com/product-p/n-phi02a.htm
It is a little pricey if i get it in rose gold, but customizable.

I also saw this:

I could probably get it engraved similar to the above, but not sure about the look.

or:

Any other ideas or comments would be appreciated too.

thanks

Dave

BTW, i did spend 3 hours today in the mall trying to find something and couldnt.

I actually really like the "heart in a heart" #2 listed. But I'm not a Mommy or a woman. I actually thought I wouldn't like anything with a birthstone but there's something about how the heart is contained within another that potentially represents mother/daughter relationship.

Congrats on Emma! Hope everyone is good and healthy.

www.tiffany.com

My grandmother and mother had charm bracelets with their charms for each of their children. The were simple gold bracelets with round 'tokens' for each child with name and DOB.

Tiffany just came out with a new line of charm bracelets. You may want to check it out. Gold or gemstones would be out of the budget but you can get great sterling silver. Plus, most women I know love the blue box.

They also have beautiful heart necklaces...

i think somethign that had your daughters birth stone in it would be very nice...tiffanys is very over prices imho. sure its nice, but you can go to boutique shops and get much more for your money.

this shop is connecticut (they have online ordering) and they have some nice stuff. have given it as gifts

My mom has one of these. I always thought it was kind of cool.

I didnt like any of the links and thought they all looked kind of cheap (not that they are, just that they look it). MAYBE the first one wasn't as bad, but I agree with the tiffanys selection.

I have also purchased quite a bit from this company. I originally found them while living in London in the early 90's. They now have a brick & motar presence in the US.

Top quality, hallmarked silver in interesting designs. Also the packaging is very unique.

I also agree with JettaGT on 'over priced' but I think it is a relative term and I don't think you will find the mark-up as 'excessive' on Tiffany's silver items. Plus the blue box is a winner.
