Life After Death?
True, but the nature of God is that He always was, is, and ever will be. That's the definition of God - all powerful, all knowing, all present, etc. Therefore the answer would be that He has always existed and He isn't confined and restricted to the dimensions of space and time like we know it.
Who knows about life after death? Not me, not you, no one. So, instead of thinking about something that is unknowable until we know it and then it'll be too late to tell anyone about it, why don't we just focus our energies on today and making this life the best that we can. That's the one thing I find really appealing about being a Jew. It focuses on life and not life after death. If something is later, then fine and good. Otherwise, stop wasting energy on the afterlife.
Is it comforting to believe in life after death? Absolutely! So many fears are wrapped up in death. Darkness, the unknown, loneliness, cold, worms, decay, stench, etc.
Just think of living after death as a nice surprise -- I hope. Otherwise, it's now that counts.

I believe in God, but whether or not there is a God, it is was important to invent him regardless, he is necessary for human life, that's what keeps us in check, that's what keeps us optimistic for the future, life is based on a reward system, just the concept of God makes us better people... Nobody can prove there is a God, nobody can prove there isn't a God, so it really doesn't matter, but having some type of fear of the unkown is a good thing..
