why do we think the world is fair
i find myself and others constantly thinking or saying "that's messed up." basically meaning "it's not right or fair." where did the idea come from that life is fair at all? are we taught this falsehood during childhood or maybe from religion? it is so obvious that life isn't fair. billions are poor without clean water, innocents die everyday, there is more sufferring than can be imagined. evil criminals are rewarded and honest citizens suffer. all without deserving, meaning or purpose.
im thinking that much unhappiness is caused by the difference between what we think things ought to be and how things are. maybe it would be better to teach our kids that life is horribly unfair and to expect it to be so.
there is no right answer, just open for disscussion.

I think the the media plays a big part in this misconception of the world. Television portrays the world as a happy go lucky place, with friendly and helpful people lurking in every corner of the world. Well, at least children's programs are that way, and with a combination of those types of programs and overly protective parents children sometimes are not exposed to what the "real" world is like.
When I say things like "thats not right" or "thats not fair," usually I'm just being sympathetic to whoever I'm talking to. Sometimes it makes people feel better.
