Default Like the S2000 but Honda not doing well in F1

Is it just me or is it important to other Honda owners that Honda do well in Formula 1? In other words, is Honda's racing success or failure part of the experience of owning the car? For me it is and F1 especially so because I consider F1 the ultimate proving ground.

Back in 1987 when I bought my Legend Coupe, Honda was entering a period of dominance in Formula 1. That didn't factor into my purchase decision (I wasn't aware that it was happening) but, later, after I learned more about their incredible accomplishments, I felt even prouder of the decision I'd made.

Since I'm now considering the purchase of an S2000, I've again looked in on how their F1 program is doing. To put it kindly, they appear to be struggling.

Can anyone predict the outcome of their current F1 trials and tribulations and is it fair to connect this with the experience of owning a Honda vehicle? For me personally it's hard to separate the two but I'd be happy to hear what others think.

Thanks in advance.

Uhhhh, yes Jaguars do suck ass.. Even today their cars reflect some of the worst quality and workmanship I have ever witnessed..

Maybe the 6 cars I inspected were lemons and I got bad luck, but it blew me away..

A new engine is on the way but that is not all it takes. The chassis, the driver, the engineer and a million other variables all have to come into play.

That being said Honda does not quit until they achieve their goals. Bobby Rahal learned this when he led Honda's initial push into Champ car racing. He worked developing the engine with them for a couple of years without succes and then he bailed.

Guess what? a year or so later Honda became the engine to have and the last 5 years Honda power has won the drivers championship.

Hell, even Penske (after a long losing streak) saw the light and switched to Honda power and since then Gil Deferan has won Back to back championships and set a new closed course speed record to boot.

BTW bearing and valve spring materials that were developed for these Champ car engines are used in the S2000's F20c engine.

Give the F-1 program some time. The young engineers tasked with the F-1 program will learn and inovate and eventually win. Years from now they will be designing amazing passenger car engines. The chief engineer for the F-1 program in the years you spoke of (6 championships in 9 years) designed the engine in the S2000 BTW.

As the Saying goes "Honda enters, Honda wins"

Does the fact that Ferrari failed to win the championship for something like 25 years mean that Ferrari's sucked ass?!?!?!

NO!

I think you should be looking at what they are achieving not at what they are not achieving..... they are producing a great engine in our cars that owes much of it's development to F1.

Don't forget that, in your own words, F1 is the ultimate proving ground. That means that all of the teams are at the pinnacle of excellence. There is so little between first and last. It is an achievement to even be competitive and only one manufacturer can win.... I don't think that makes the rest suck though!!!

I own an s2k yet I find myself usually voting against BAR or Jordan. Sure I like them on the podium but not necesarily the top step. ( I must admit that I liked it when JV got 3rd place)

I route more for the driver than the car he is driving. I happen to be an avid Michael Schumacher fan and will always route for him and through an extension of that obviously the car he drives. When he was with Ford, I was routing with Ford, etc...etc...

I'm starting to like the driving dynamics of JPM...he's going to be awesome to watch if he keeps up his pace. So I'll be cheering for Ferrari's and BMWs!

And mark my words on this....don't count Jaguar out. I think they've got another glorious "DFV" era in the works...

I think its great to fight for the podium and the trophy and best of all, respect. But seriously, these guys are business giants, they are after the bigger piece of pie, the passenger car market. S2000 did seize a lot of potential Porsche, MB, Bimmer buyers ....

I like to root for the Honda teams as well. Yes, Jordan and BAR is struggling a bit, but they are up against the top drivers in the series. Michael Schumacher is phenomanal, not too mention Ruben Barichello with Ferrari. Then you got the bad boys from McLaren-Mercedes ( Hakinnen and Coultard ) too. BMW is up there as well and I think the Honda teams will always be up there as one of the Players.

I also only root for the Honda powered Cart FedEx Cars as well. And they are always on top. Too bad Honda might not participate next year.

Well it's good to know that Honda is still a major Player in motorsports.

I too have been disappointed in the progress that Honda has made in F-1. The engines are underpowered compared to BMW, Mercedes and Ferrari. But Honda engineers are quite persistent and I expect that they will have made many improvements for the coming season. I am a big Jordan fan and hope that EJ gets it together soon. For anyone who has not gone to Indy for the US GP I highly recommend it.
