Default Limo Tint = Automatic Ticket???

Well, I just got all my windows (4 side + rear) limo tinted on my '02 WRX.

It looks sooooooooo sweet on Platinum Metallic paint (Silver).

Anyway, I know that ANY tint on the driver/passenger windows is illegal, but I figure WTF.

I live in L.A., and that used to be the 'ticket of choice' for cops a few years back, and now they give it more for 'no front plates'.

Just wanted your thoughts if any of you w/ limo tints have been pulled over.

Thanks!

Oh BTW, I was gonna get this amazing 'smoke' tint, but that's pretty much like a mirror on all 5 windows...and the tint guy said that it would be soooooo obvious because at night, headlights reflect like mirrors to drivers behind me, and that'd be a lot worse than limo tinting...

Anyway, I'm out

I had limo tint on my red MR2 for years and it looked incredible! Never had anyone say anything about it. I absolutely loved it and really got used to it. You just had to make sure to look around carfully at night when changing lanes and such.

Then one day I was on the highway, on the way home, in rain and got pulled over for not signaling a lane change. The cop was just looking for a reason to pull me over and found one. I hadn't even payed much attention to him. I wasn't speeding and who gets pulled over in the rain right?

Well, he came up to my car, tells me I didn't signal a lane change and to roll my window about half way up. He then went back to his car to get his light meter and stuck that POS on my window and of course it reads .5 (or whatever limo tint is) and tells me he is going to take me to JAIL!!!

I instantly started sweating and was like "WHAT?!?!" I told him there's no way he could be serious and asked isn't the usual process something like you stand here and watch me scrape it off or something? He said he didn't want to stand in the rain and that having your windows too dark was a very serious thing and he was taking me to jail.

I just sat there for a few seconds shocked and then asked is there some other way we could work something out. He then gives me the option to go home and take off the tint and he would come by my place in 2 days and if it wasn't gone then he would take me to jail.

Now in hindsight, I realize that I was being severely harassed and there was not a chance in hell that he could really take me to jail for having my windows too dark but I wasn't about to call his bluff. I've learned not to f*ck with police. I scraped the tint off the next day so I wouldn't have to worry about it. Boy that whole process sucked too.

So beware and be sure to signal your turns and lane changes.
