A little bit of both. I try to be as frugal and invest as much as possible but I end up wasting a lot of money. But regardless of how many bad investments, frivolous purchases and financial mistakes I make, there are two things that I will NOT let get screwed up:

1) My IRA. I have to contribute the max every year, and

2) My home. It needs to be paid off at the end of the loan without refinancing along the way.

It doesn't matter how bad I screw up, those two things are my bare minimum financial goals. I don't care if I have to walk everywhere and eat nothing but Ramen noodles, I will do whatever it takes make those two happen. With that accomplished I can have a relatively easy retirement. Thankfully, I'm a little ahead of those goals

Retired 9 years ago, now just a full time dad to my my little boys and husband to the wife. Little guys own their own homes already, no mortgages on them and the rental income pays for their tuition. Gotta love Cali real estate during spring -summer 1996

Working sucks, feel bad for you wage slaves. Be quiet when you guys leave for work in the morning I sleep in. Wife drives the boys to school.

A good family, barely any obligations, kids old and set enough to lend you money, and an S2000. I envy you, my man

My wife and I put 20% into our 401Ks from day one (not counting company match). The house will be paid for when I retire at 55.

Still manage to enjoy ourselves. We've got the big screen TV, the S2000, motorcycles, etc.

Most important part of our plan? We've never had credit card debt. Currently our only debt is the mortgage.
