hey loki,
I think when people bring cars into the usa to "race" or "show" and students who import them.... somehow the gov't loses track of them and they get sold.
Bill Riley (of riley and scott) is selling a EVO VI for $45k.. i spoke to him and it is registered as "a kit car" (he applied for a vin number then stuck it inside the door). Great if you can afford to have it impounded then destroyed or deported.
A student's evo V RHD was for sale in Michigan about 2 years ago for $40k also..... the *rules* say you have to deport them, but... i guess you could claim you lost it

I think it's a rough gamble if you go that route... I know it's common practice to yank the engine and tranny and ship all 3 items over independently, reassemble and register it as a kit. Sending it whole, while easier in the mechanical regard, seems more of a gamble if you're trying to keep it here.
Of course I guess there's nothing to stop it being "lost" but I wonder what kind of penalty you could imply... I would assume you'd have to sell it out-of-state.
I'd love to get an Audi RS4 here, heck I'd probably drop the M3 to get that... but I haven't found any good leads yet.
