Looting - would you do it?
You really have to either VERY slow or just ignorant. 1st NO is not a small place, 2nd everyone in New Orleans CANNOT fit in the dome.
Why would I walk to the dome if I may not get in when I have food at home and a whole family to take there. NO ONE and I mean NO ONE knew the hurricane was going to be this bad. Now the people are supposed to wade or swim to this

While i'm not a fan of Bush, i dont' think the blame necessarily should fall on him. But he is the figure head of the nation and will ultimately be judged by what happens to the civilians in NO.
But if Bush can get enough security to land in NO safely and walk around, there is enough security to protect Red Cross workers to hand out food and water.

Everyone said it was going to be that bad, actually worse than it was.
New Orleans was forecasted to take a DIRECT HIT and the storm was forecasted to be a category 5 upon landfall.

OK. Lets get past this "ability to get the superdome or not" argument. Thats not the important thing now. People are at the superdome. People are at the convention center. they have been there since Monday. The blame should now be pointed at others.
this is the current state at one of the "safe havens" (convention center)
This should not be happening. How much coordination does it take to send a few military teams into the city to restore order? How many days does it take to send a team into the convention center with food and water. There are probably just a few people with guns that are acting up. Take them out, then save the people. WTF??????????????????????????????????????????????? ??????????
this is the current state at one of the "safe havens" (convention center)
Thousands of people have been stranded at the Ernest Morial Convention Center with little help and surrounded by corpses, trash and human waste.
"We got here, there's no food. There's no water. There's shooting. They're killing people," evacuee Tishia Walters told CNN from inside the center. "They're robbing men in the restrooms, they're raping women trying to go to the rest room. So people have resorted to defecating on the floors. You can't walk. There's babies without Pampers, mammas without milk. It's chaos total chaos."
Mayor Ray Nagin said in a statement that more than 10,000 people were evacuated from the city Thursday but that more than 50,000 survivors were still on rooftops and in shelters, in urgent need of help. (See video of the desperate conditions -- 1:56)

Oh I get it now. Because your poor and the police are corrupt you can't figure out that when the mayor calls for a evacuation, sets up a shelters, the weatherman yells get the fvck out, your dumb poor ass surrounded by corrupt police can't walk to a shelter. I understand. Yes I went through a hurricane not at that magnitude, basically there was no need for an evacuation, but I'll say this if there was a call for evacuation I would get the fvck out. NO MATTER WHAT. Because I want to live! It was the 80'sa a hurricane came up through the chesapeake bay. I lived in baltimore. I'm not discrediting the confusion nor the problems but its a basic survival skill to listen to evacuation notices. If a nuclear power plant was going to blow in 24 hours all of those people would've gotten out of there instead they stayed because they though they could ride it out. Your own fault. Now that doesn't mean we shouldn't help them I agree with the mayor bush and everyone else WTF is going on down there! Get your asses in gear. Fill a c transport with freaking marshmellow bags and drop them on the crowds sitting at the convention center. You can survive for a while they don't hurt if they get dropped on your head from 1000 feet and get some damn water down there. I have to assume that there is a reason why they can't but crap figure it out. Without a doubt Mav I understand everything your saying but I think the real reason why they were stuck on their roofs was stupidity. I know what its like to live in the ghetto too. Hope your not mad at me
I'm on a rant lately with how everyone is bashing bush for getting the runs from olive garden salad. Bush says the releif effort sucks and he was flustered mad. I thought he was going to kick that home security dude in the head.

For years, no one paid attention and lived in the comfort thinking that it won't happen to us. August 24, 1992 changed that mentality in Miami forever. Its the same in NO. The city is shaped like a bowl, sitting 20 feet below sea level. For years, everyone knew that if a Cat 3 hurricane were to hit NO, they were be devastated. No one cared because they all thought it could not happen to them. Even with Andrew coming at us, many in Miami thought, nah this isn't happening. It will go north or south suddenly.
Also since "walking there" is your simple solution, the SuperDome was filled up. What then? Walk to Texas? Its not as simple as just walking.
But I do agree with you on one thing... the entire response to Katrina has been one big cluster f*ck from the start, beginning with the local government, the Mayor of NO, the state of LA and the federal government, going up to Bush himself. During 9/11 the federal response was incredible and lightning fast. Bush needs to get a firm grasp of the situation, slap some people around, kick some ass and get immediate help to those people.

Actually, I'm not sure the category 5 direct hit was supposed to break the levees. I think that was something no one predicted.
Models predicted New Orleans disaster, experts say
"The scenario of a major hurricane hitting New Orleans was well anticipated, predicted and drilled around," said Clare Rubin, an emergency management consultant who also teaches at the Institute for Crisis, Disaster, and Risk Management at George Washington University.
Computer models developed at Louisiana State University and other institutions made detailed projections of what would happen if water flowed over the levees protecting the city or if they failed.

Well excel, thats you. Some people for whatever reason, decided to ride it out. What about the single mother with 6 kids living on welfare? What about the elderly that are unable to walk? What about the sick who are too weak to walk?
