Damn, Richard. I'm shocked, and really, really sorry to hear you've been let go. Just have faith in yourself. You've got too much talent to be unemployed for very long. I'm sure that your aptitude, dedication and impressive qualifications won't go unnoticed when you get that first interview. You've made a lot of good friends on this board, and everyone here shares your disappointment. We all wish you the very best of luck and good fortune in finding that dream job you've always hoped for. You're already very blessed to have such a loving and supportive wife behind you. I know she'll be an inspiration to you over the next few weeks, until you find that new career.

Good luck, Richard. Hang in there.

BTW. Does this mean you'll be hanging out with MarkS2K, and posting up a storm for a while?

I'd love to know your skillset; people are still hiring...it's not a dead job market.

I, too, am in the tech-sector. The feeling that I've heard from recruiters (with whom I work with to hire people) is that the "good ones" don't stay out for long.

I suspect you're a "good one." Now's the time to use the network of people you've built. A bit further down the road, you'll merely look at this as the neccsary oil change.

mingster,

Ahhhman...sorry bud. That also happend to me in October.

Remember my post? "Might have to trade my S2000 in for a CBR?"

I was working at a .com job, and did not find another job until January!

I had 5 weeks of severance pay and Unemployment benifits to pay for the S2000 (living with my folks also helped out).

In today's world, it is no disgrace to get laid off. The business world is ever evolving and the economy is seldom stagnant for long. The good people always survive. You have developed tons of friends on this board, so I would surmize you have many contacts in the business world. When the shock wears off, and it will, start planning your next step. In life, there will always be dark days, but these too will pass.

good luck

Laird

Hey Richard,

You and I are in the same boat now. I've been looking for jobs for the both of us. Depending on what you want to do, there are a few companies I know of that could use your services. I'll give you a call later this weekend to discuss it with you. Maybe we can get together for a beer and drown our sorrows.

In the meantime, just like Clive said, now we have time to post on the board more often There's always a bright side to everything.

Ahhh I'm sorry to hear the news. I'm kinda on the edge right now about my job too. It seems that NO ONE is safe nowadays. Luckily for me, I've got a back-up job if I were to be laid off within the next month or so. I actually turned down a job offer to stay with my current company. Hopefully that gamble will pay off. Anyways, email or PM me if you'd like cuz I've got TONS of connections in the tech industry.

Mingster,
If you have a solid chemistry/biology background i am sure my company would have a place for you. Depending on where you are located in the country, extensive travel may be required. Get in touch if you think you may be interested and i can give you specifics.
