The iMac with the DVD recording drive is a great way to go if you want to work with digital, photos, video and music. All the software you will need comes packaged with the computer, iMovie, iPhoto, iTunes and iDVD. The Mac will read your files from the PC.

This is a good place to get answers;

The 17 incher screen is nice too.. I have an old style bubble iMac (snow 600 MHz) and I think it's great for everything I do, but I think it's time to sell it and get a new iMac or even the new PB 17 incher

if you get the superdrive (dvd burner) option, iDVD is awesome for novices. if you have money to spare, go for Final Cut Pro 3 for music, there is iTunes, and for photos on the web there is .mac (extra $$ for subscription, but defintely worth it). all of those (except .mac) is included with the included iLife good luck blau-blau.
