Getting back on track: I was advised by a poster on another forum that, inasmuch as I've never imbibed in Scotch, and inasmuch as Macallan is fairly strongly-flavord (as Scotches go), I should purchase a small bottle of, say, Dewars, and sip it a bit for at least three days before the Macallan tasting. His final comment was, "Trust me on this . . . ."

Sound advice?

It's not horrible advice. Indeed, if you're not used to it, Dewars and/or Chivas will get you used to making the Robert DeNiro scotch face with style.

You guys are making me thirsty.

I just started getting into scotch about a month ago with rob roy's, which I've fallen in love with. Started out with a bottle of Dewars and only made rob roys with it. Then I got a bottle of Dewars 12 yr, drank some on the rocks and rather enjoyed it. I'm sure it's nothing compared to most any single malts out there, but I'm just starting out, and I'm pretty broke...

Is it Friday yet?

Dewars is not a bad idea. Chivas tastes quite different from Macallan. I actually don't like Chivas at all. I like Jonnie Walker Black and up. JW red is swill. Stay from Cutty Sark or J&B.

My new daily drinker is Oban. It's nice and smooth.

Probably. I've only had Scotch once (Glenlivet 15 yr old), and it tasted like jet fuel to me. I assume it must be an acquired taste.
