Making the best of a DUI
A month ago today I was caught doing the single most regrettable thing in my life.
Driving under the influence.
$1856 in fines
16 hours of alcohol class $$
8 hours of traffic survival school $
3 days (2 days work release) jail time
12 months of $75/month ignition interlock device $$$
9 points on my license will surely increase my insurance rates for the next few years $$$$
and the killer...Suspended license for 30 days + 60 days restricted to work and school only after that.
That's just the civilian side, I'm military and they've had their say in it too.
Now, I want to try to make the best of this. I am still alive, uninjured, nobody else was injured and the car is still in perfect shape..
My question to the community is this:
What is one thing you would do to your car that people usually say "I would do that, but this is my daily driver and I could not afford to go that long without a car?
This is my PSA people. If you've never used a breathalyzer before, find one and see how impaired you really are... I was shocked to see .127 and then a set of handcuffs.

Have you realized how serious a DUI is? Forget the money aspect of it cause that seems like all your worried about. This is a big deal I hope you realize this and hopefully never make a mistake like this again. I know a few people that were killed by drunk drivers and you just seem to only worry about the money aspect, granted you didnt hurt anyone or yourself but you could have. Anyone that goes out and as a few drinks and then drives no matter how close the destination doesnt plan on an accident.
Im not trying to sound like a dick or anything I just want to make sure you see the big picture

Sorry, but I don't feel sorry for you. I'm also in the Military and I've seen quite a few people get hammered for DUI's. Even if they were a close friend, I never looked at them the same.
Can you say NJP?

There's no way to make the best of it. There's no "best part" of a felony. The money aspect of this is literally the least of your worries. Get a 30 day bus pass, and wait for the fine ladies of MADD to get a hold of your contact information once this becomes public record.
The best part of this will be to learn a lesson, and never, ever do it again. So please make the best part a reality.
Rant over. Be safe. Just say no. Good day.

MitsukillinS2K : Yes, first
Dangators: This was not a felony..and yes, you can make the best of anything in life. I've exercising more by riding my bike to work and saving the environment, for starters
EVERYONE ELSE:
Maybe I should've saved the PSA and lied to you saying both of my feet were broken....please answer the question at hand....sorry for owning up to my mistakes and reiterating the need to have a plan before drinking.

All and sundry, he didn't have to say anything at all. The fact that he decided to post this shows his regret. Doesn't change what happened one way or another, but it's better than not having regret, right?
