sure it's staged to some extent, that's what makes it an interesting show to watch... would you want to just watch him walk for miles? I didn't see any lines or harness when he climbed up the waterfall... sure didn't look easy, but I'll bet the location was staged, never the less I was impressed and enthrawled!

I don't think he REALLY needs to actually survive or put his life in danger (although he has) in order to show you how to survive. It is the basics and principles that he brings up that are going to save you.

And how stupid would that be to kill an endangered species when he is merely showing you how to survive. I think every educated person watching the show (except for some maybe) understand the concept of killing an animal and cooking the meat on a fire. I don't think he needed to kill an animal to get 'that' point across.

It's an informative show, not so much a "lets see if he dies" reality tv show

I think it's awesome when he just takes big bites out of raw fish. How is it that the PETA people haven't complained yet?

yea i saw that one. it was soooooooo nasty.

but... like all tv, everything is staged. he isnt really surviving anything.

just a few examples of things staged:

episode where he has to float down a cold river, u can tell he is wearing a wetsuit underneath this clothes.

episode in africa, he conveniantly turns a corner and finds a cave to sleep in.

episode where he searches for food but wont eat an endangered animal... if he was really trying to survive, he would have killed it.

he does do rediculous nature stunts tho like drinking diearrehea water, so i guess thats entertaining.
I very highly doubt he's ever wore a wetsuit on the show.

He has a camera crew with him that obviously has contact to the outside world. It's not a true "life or death" thing in the long-term, but he certainly puts himself in bad situations at times. There was one episode where he took a boat a few miles across a lake filled with icebergs. About 1/2 a mile from shore, the boat sank, and he had to swim through the icebergs to get back to land. That's not exactly staged.

About the endangered animal thing... you realize it's actually illegal to kill them unless you are in a "life or death" situation, right? If they showed him killing one on TV, during the filming of a reality show, I'm pretty sure he'd be in some trouble.

survivor man looks a little more real since he takes the camera himself....bear is a badass mamma-jamma and could definitely survive if he needed to, but he has a camera man to worry about too

I'm pretty sure if you dropped Les Stroud and Bear Grylls on Mars, they'd show up in South America in 11 days Either that or Les would eat Bear while Bear explained to the camera that sometimes in survival situations you have to do whatever it takes to stay alive, then recount one instance in 1947 where a family of twelve ate their father and mother in order to survive 22 days trapped under a glacier

I enjoy both Survivor Man and Man vs. Wild. I want to get a magnesium flint stick just for kicks. Les does everything the hard way so he gets more points.

I can assure you, if you are ever up shits creek without a paddle, youd rather have Bear as your partner, and not Les.

best show evAr.

theres flaws here and there though. The one where he was trapped in the florida wetlands. I was thinking how the hell is he going to cook with a bed suspended from the trees. And out of no where he pops out a pot.

awesome show nonetheless.
