He has a personal vendetta toward me because, I assume, he leads a very shallow life.

I don't respond to him anymore because, as you very well can see, he's a complete waste of time and bandwith.

I say to smoke away. High tech (I work in software) is generally pretty lax when it comes to drug testing, and random drug tests are highly unlikely unless you're a field engineer who needs to be on-call 24 hours a day for big accounts. And even then, you'd know that you'll be getting randomly tested.

Hell, my employee handbook explicitly says that employees are not to use drugs at work. In other words, don't come to work high, but what you do on your own time is none of the company's business.

 

 

I dont know your particular company's drug policy but as a professional who has worked at 4 fortune 500 and 1 fortune top 10 company I can tell you I have only been tested at the fortune 10 company right before i started but never after that. In addition, that drug test I was informed about it 2 months before I had to take it and I simply stopped smoking for that time and it came out approved.
