nobody is talking about smoking pot while on the job. same goes for drinking alcohol. People for the most part don't drink while at work, in the morning etc. We are talking about smoking in general. May a little smoke after your hard day at work. Maybe on weekends. You get my drift? Oh and that weeded out comment was funny as hell!
The day-after buzz is just as nice as the buzz itself.

So can I hear from somebody who does not smoke but has in the past and given it up? Why did you give it up? Expense? Fear of jail? Got bored with it? Had kids?
And getting busted with a quarter bag is no big deal. Just don't get busted with paraphernalia. But guess it probably depends on your state.
Personally, I got bored with it and found that it was hard to concentrate in an analytical manner while I was college (I have an MS in Physics). For what I do, I need a clear head.
Plus, prolonged smoking slows the metabolism, makes ya

i disagreee that it is a gateway drug. It is most often referenced as being a gateway drug because people who do more serious drugs (ecstasy, cocaine, heroin, etc) started on marijuana. This is a really false pretense. Who is one to speculate that they would not have gone on to harder drugs if marijuana were not available? People ofthat personality who are using harder drugs would most likely have gone on to those drugs with or without marijuana. Holy shit I just had such dijavu while writing this!
Ive seen it happen personally at least with a dozen people, that, in my mind, is enough proof.
is that a bad thing? not in my opinion as I think most drugs done in relative moderation really arent bad. is marijuana the main link to futher drug use? i think so, but dont misquote me as saying ALL people who try smoking will try other drugs.

who is one to speculate? Me. I know MANY people who have started smoking...before smoking they said drugs were horrible bad things (wheter this is propoganda or not you decide)...after smoking they said all OTHER drugs were horrible bad things...after smoking for a few months they decided well maybe taking hydorcodone and xanax recreationally isnt bad, then adderall/meth then X then coke/heroin/opium.

The people who get into heavier drugs are probably just as likely to do so without pot around. Odds are they smoke pot more often because it is more available to most of the population, not because it is a "gateway drug" <--- what a crock of shit that phrase is. There is a certain type of person who is predisposed to such stupidity. Is pot bad? Well sure it was for the

Also in response to the "gateway drug" topic....anyone who says it isnt a gateway drug must be blind or never been around a drugdealer/user.
Many drug users start off "light" with just weed or just a few pills and then as they continue this realize, hey they told me this is really bad and im breaking the law but you know what it isnt really that bad...and they go out and try more...

I'm sure these people just one day said "you know...i've never smoked a cigarette or had any alcohol but for some reason I want to blaze one up". The only two gateway drugs I know of are legal because they're taxed.
I'm glad this thread came about cuz it's been a concern on my part for a while now... I used to smoke alot while in college and even months after... I wasn't a pot head or anything: it was mostly after a long & hard day at work and school... I would like to consider myself pretty established in life & my career... I have my BS in Computer Information Systems, Master's in Information Systems Mgmt, and 4 Oracle Certifications to be OCP certified (the database techies know the acronym)
... and all at the age of 24.... My thoughts on recreation smokin: in the words of starsky - "DO IT"...
However, I quit for one primary reason: I'm afraid of random drug tests... I spoke to a fellow co-worker and she said she hasn't had one since she hired in which was approximately 25 years ago (yeah, she started working here straight out of h.s.)... she did things beyond weed and had no problems... but then again, this was a while back... policies may have changed and I'm afraid of losing my job... I'm making excellent money and don't want to jeopordize my career... Nothing relaxed me more than rollin' up a j and poppin' in a video after 8 hours of database recovery and coding... What would you guys do in my situation?

There's also the fact that regular pot smokers don't usually do many other drugs (aside from alcohol and possibly cigarettes). Different drugs appeal to different people, and weed smokers enjoy its mellow, short-lived (and rather jolly) high. That high is completely unlike the high from other drugs, and the vast majority of pot smokers do not enjoy the effects of the so-called harder drugs.
Sure, lots of people experiment with drugs, and being that it's so popular and readily available, marijuana is often one of the first things they try. But to suggest that marijuana leads to use of all other drugs is ridiculous and based on chronology rather than causation. And besides, before smoking weed, haven't most people already drank alcohol? Why then is alcohol not the dreaded gateway drug?
