This is the video version of the Big 3's asking for bailout. Its a short video. I love how in the end the reporter asked if Honda or Toyota execs fly private, the reply was "well, they are not asking for a $25 billion bailout".

Almost all of you sound like a bunch of bias import fanbois with no sense of reality.
A lot of you also claim you understand the "trickle down" effect yet you can't even realize that if the big 3 fall, so does the US economy. You preach how it will be great that when they die all we are left is with imports, last I checked in the great depression NO ONE could afford anything so who gives a flying crap what we are left with if we can't afford it?
Ever here of business competition? You want to be stuck with a bunch of lame japanese cars to choose from. "hey honey, should we get a civic or a corolla" oh yeah thats sounds awesome to me!
Don't get me wrong, I'm not much of a fan of american cars (though the new caddys are looking very nice along with my personal favorite, the viper) but this general american hate on these boards is pathetic at best.
Should GM die, no. Should they get a bailout, only if its under the strictest conditions. Personally, I would tell them to file for bankruptcy, kick the fing union out and fire all the pos managers that don't do crap for 6+ figures.

I got this letter thru work:
DRAFT LETTER TO CONGRESS FROM EMPLOYEES
Dear_________________:
One of every 10 people in America works at a job that is related to the U.S. auto industry. I am one of those people. I am writing to ask your support for providing federal assistance to the U.S. auto industry and to request that you act with the utmost urgency.
The collapse of the U.S.-based auto industry would have a devastating impact, and not just on the nearly quarter-million Americans directly employed by Ford, General Motors and Chrysler. A bankruptcy by one or more of the Big Three would place at risk any number of solid, well run companies that rely on the automakers, including my employer, (a certain car rental company).
The downstream financial impact of failed auto manufacturers could threaten the long-term strength of (a certain car rental company), which owns and operates the largest fleet of passenger vehicles in the world (1.1 million vehicles) and employs some 75,000 people throughout its system. And we are just one of many businesses, which through no fault of our own, are finding ourselves imperiled by the looming prospect of automakers being allowed to go into bankruptcy.
In summary, I believe immediate Congressional support for the U.S. auto industry is in America's best economic interest. An investment in our automakers will help secure a more competitive future, not only for the manufacturers but also for companies like mine whose financial future is tied to a healthy manufacturing base.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
_________
personally, I think one of them should flop (chrysler). GM and ford have some hope for them. if you've had the chance to see their latest offerings, you'd know there's room for improvement, and that they've come a long way in the past decade.

Actually I don't really care too much if the automakers get bailed out or not. I did care when we bailed out the financial institutions. But looking back, I don't think it matters. I'm curious and would like to see what happens when/if these companies fail even if it takes our economy with them. Go down in flames I say.

Anyone know of how we can do the opposite? Perhaps access the same submission system they are leveraging but allow us to write our own letter?
It makes me sick to my stomach that our government is even considering bailing out the "Big 3" who have done nothing but perpetuate big oil's hold on America in the past. Add to that the fact that they have shown a distinct unwillingness to compete and improve the quality of their products to match their competitors and the whole thing is just disgusting.
If you don't adapt your business model to the demands of your customers and the economic conditions around you, your business deserves to die.
I do feel for all of the workers who would be affected by the Big 3 going under, but at some point we have to let the market correct and stop bailing out badly run businesses. We will have to weather rough times, but the market (and our country) will be better for it.

As the line from Airplane! went ..."..I say, let 'em crash!"
If it were happening to every auto company, then I could see where something needs to be done. However, I think the 3 of them did it to themselves. Be it the cars they make or their business practices, I don't know.

It's their own fault for ending up in that position though, because the cars were piss poor for the longest time. It's a shame this happened when they finally started making improvements.
