Default Michael Vick

Michael Vick's lawyer said Monday the NFL star will plead guilty to federal dogfighting conspiracy charges, leaving him subject to a possible prison term. The offense is punishable by up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine, although federal sentencing guidelines most likely would call for less. NFL Network is reporting the agreement calls for a 10-to-12 month prison sentence. "We are aware of Michael Vick's decision to enter a guilty plea to the federal charges against him and accept responsibility for his conduct," the NFL said in a statement. "We totally condemn the conduct outlined in the charges, which is inconsistent with what Michael Vick previously told both our office and the Falcons. We will conclude our own review under the league

With all the excessive fudge that he's going to be packing in the near future, his 40 yard dash time is going to drop to about 7.5 seconds. Ron Mexico better learn to perfect the act of grabbing his ankles.

As much as I totally condemn dogfighting and animal abuse, sometimes I think the punishment he may be facing is too excessive. Even vehicular manslaughter in most cases only calls for a few years in prison, and that's for killing someone. A fair punishment for dogfighting is a few months in jail and some fine.

Was talking with some friends at work today. Topic comes up. Gambling, and tax evasion. It is not in the news but I think it is only a matter of time.

Yes, excessive just for dogfighting alone, unless he has other charges. Think about it, a drunk driver who kills someone would get about 3 years in most cases, yet someone who has had dogfighting in his backyard would face 1-5 years in prison? Yes, excessive! As I've said, dogfighting conspiracy should be punished a few months in prison with a fine. It should not be the same as vehicular homicide.
