Michael Vick
Michael Vick's lawyer said Monday the NFL star will plead guilty to federal dogfighting conspiracy charges, leaving him subject to a possible prison term. The offense is punishable by up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine, although federal sentencing guidelines most likely would call for less. NFL Network is reporting the agreement calls for a 10-to-12 month prison sentence. "We are aware of Michael Vick's decision to enter a guilty plea to the federal charges against him and accept responsibility for his conduct," the NFL said in a statement. "We totally condemn the conduct outlined in the charges, which is inconsistent with what Michael Vick previously told both our office and the Falcons. We will conclude our own review under the league
As much as I totally condemn dogfighting and animal abuse, sometimes I think the punishment he may be facing is too excessive. Even vehicular manslaughter in most cases only calls for a few years in prison, and that's for killing someone. A fair punishment for dogfighting is a few months in jail and some fine.
