Default Model 1911, .45

I just got done firing a wilson combat 1911 .45 today. It was the "professional" model. My first 1911 firing.

I fell in love with this thing... unfortunatly it's upwards of $2600!!! If I was gonna spend that much on another gun I'd buy the ACR thats at the BX at my base.

I do however want a 1911. Anyone have any suggestions on what smith makes a good one? I don't want to spend anymore than $1k... If you have one, please post up and let me know what you think.

For the money, Kimber Pro Carry II would be your best option. You can pick one up for about $900

for a true 1911, you better get that 1k limit out of your head...anyway, try looking on gunbroker for different makes and prices.

You are talking about a "smith," typical custom gunsmith 1911s start where the Wilson's leave off and skyrocket from there.

Wilson and Les Baer are at the top of the "mass producers" market. You can go up from there to a Stan Chen custom nearing $10k or down to a Springfield, Para or Kimber in the $600-$1400 area.

If you can find a Springfield Range Officer, it's a hell of a starting point for a 1911.

I have a Kimber Pro Crimson Trace whatever it's called with the 4" barrel and it's probably the best value 1911 out there IMO.

First off, thanks guys. Good suggestions.

I guess I could up the budget to $1200 to $1300. No more though because I will buy that ACR if it's any more. I want that thing so bad...

Keep 'em coming.

Just get the ACR, you know you want it. 1911's aren't going anywhere - I don't see the ACR sticking around forever...
