"this is an aftermarket raplacement exhaust system, and not a modified oem exhaust system. what do you guys think i should do...

The exhaust system is counted as a part of the emissions system (even if it doesn't effect emissions) and its illegal to modify that. Pay the ticket and move on.

but you ARE allowed to replace it with non-OEM parts.

if the exhaust wears out they can't force you to buy OEM.

of course, using the argument that your OEM one wore out would get you laughed out of court.

Did you buy an OEM exhaust to replace your "rusting oem exhaust?"

--No you didn't so whats the question here? In simple terms, ANY NON-OEM exhasut (no matter what the reason) is technically not legal as stated by the clean air act that specifically states modification to the emissions system is illegal (and the exhaust piping after the cat is considered part of the emissions system).

Again, pay the ticket and move on. Your chances of getting it again are fairly slim unless you live in cali.

Actually they can. Granted we can get into "what if the car is 30 years old and no one makes the exhasut" and my answer to that is the s2000 is at most ~8 years old so ask again in another 22 years.

But as I stated, this is all very rare and probably will not happen again. Deal with it and move on.
