I seem to remember that a rotary engine's displacement cannot be directly equated to that of a piston engine. A rotary of small displacement would actually equal a much larger displacement piston engine, so hp per liter honors would probably still go to the stook, don't you think?

Excellent. Here is some more info with official Mazda sketches that just came out.
www.rotarynews.com

Some info on Beyond the Redline mentioned the 10,000 - 12,000 RPM redline. Also, on rotarynews there is a link to the Mazda president's speech from Monday.

And no, Ford does not seem to be stopping this car from being the best it can be. The EVOLV does not compete with the GT Mustang. Ford knows the Rotary Engine IS Mazda, and they know Mazda builds great sports cars. They're pretty much letting Mazda have their way with this one.

Hear about $30K. There is also going to be a RX-5 (rotary Miata) with the RENESIS engine. Sorry, but you're going to have one HOT HOT roadster on your hands that should give Honda a run for its money in both the performance and price department. Word has it Mazda's RX-5 will be a Boxster S killer.

Competition for the S2000?

Well, if you're lucky, you may see this SEDAN in only a few years. A roadster? Would take much longer.

A 1.3 liter rotary would be equivalent to a 2.6 liter piston engine because it functions like a 2 stroke in that is cycles through it's entire displacement with each cycle vs. a 4 stroke that only cycles through half of it's displacement. I believe that the 120 hp/l mark will stand.
