lets see, drifting uses cars that i kind of like, but in a way that is completley useless.
Useless?

Have you ever heard the term scrubbing off speed?

By the way, I'd be very surprised if anyone posting on this thread has a clue what drifting really is.

Here's a hint: it has nothing to do with sliding.

I think drifting is being able to have the rear end kick out and control it as if you were just driving normally.

Drift shows are fun as hell to watch IMO

Nascar is just.... horrible

Drifting is fun to do.

I wouldn't judge NASCAR because I've never driven around a track at about 200mph before. But it sure is boring to watch.

If Nascrap would do road courses instead of ovals for EVERY TRACK, I could deal with it. But oval racing is the most boring chit ever invented. I'd rather watch paint dry. I have no comment on drifting, could care less about it.

WRC cars drift all the time. Drifting is fun if you can do it, and actually requires a bit of skill. Nascar is holding your line for four hours in a car that's designed to turn left.

WRC cars slide the rear frequently. That's not drifting.

"Because of relatively large large slip angles many racing cars appear to be sliding sideways through the turns. This attitude in a turn is called a drift and is looked on by many as the ultimate cornering technique. A car nearing the limit of adhesion will naturally assume this drift if the rear tires operate at large slip angles."

Fred Puhn - How to Make Your Car Handle, H. P. Books, 1976

Slip angles occur only when the tire is rolling, not when it is sliding; hence, a drift occurs when the car is rolling, not sliding. Note that the author mentions nearing the limit of adhesion, not exceeding it. In a perfect drift the car is turning while all four wheels are pointed straight ahead, the tires are rolling - not sliding - and the car is moving sideways; the slip angles on the rear tires are larger than those on the front tires.
