The USA is really behind the curve on what Drifting really is.
So far most of you are assuming that Drifting isn't a competition and it's just ballet for cars. Until you actually see a drifting "COMPETITION" than I can see why some of you don't see the value in the sport.
I went to the GT Live event at Fontana Speedway and caught a Japanese vs. USA drifting competition and it was some of the best stuff I have ever seen! Now I understand how much skill this stuff really requires, and I must say, the USA "pro" drifters cannot hold a candle compared to the Japanese drifters.
Remember, the Drifting Competitions send two cars down the straightaway at speeds over 100mph and they are trying to get the other to mess up. If that doesn't get your pants in a bunch then you are more of an adrenaline junkie than me.
i luv drifting too. watching cars going fast in circle boring. watching cars going fast sideways at many different angles, very exciting.
NASCAR is definitely more lame...I've tried many times to watch and get into it, but just got bored EASILY...I understand that both NASCAR and drifting both require skill, yes...but IMO competition drifting is much more exciting to watch...
I remember the first time I saw drifting - six kids in Japan drifting their cars around a circuit track with occasional contact. Much more exciting than the cone racing I've seen in the US so far.

Watching cone racing isn't the most fun... but actually doing it is much, much better.

lets see, drifting uses cars that i kind of like, but in a way that is completley useless. nascar uses cars i cant stand, but at least it racing, no matter how gay it may be.
I've seen one Nascar race live, and until you see it I don't think one can really make a educated comment about it. I have also seen one Drifting event.
Nascar is fun to watch LIVE. I can't tell you what to watch but I can say if you get a chance go do it. Its not that expensive and during the race you can easily make your way down to the fence to watch 30 cars go by at 180+ mph.
With drifting your 50+ feet away and watching one guy try and lose the other guy. I can see how its fun in some of your minds but that just seems like excess. I don't care for excess.
I also like baseball and think basketball is boring, which I know most people feel the exact opposite about. Something about 1 pitch that could change everything, whereas basket ball goes back and forth, back and forth.
Football is also fun to watch because of this, one hike and eveything could change.
